Sci-fi movies/shows that should be remade

Are there any science fiction movies and/or TV shows that should be remade? I think the best ideas for remakes are movies/shows that had good premises but didn't live up to their potential(like Battlestar Galactica). I think Seaquest DSV would be a good choice because NBC dumbing it down prevented it from reaching its full potential.

Alien Nation would be my first pick. Which is not to mock the television series, but to lament it's passing after only one season (later there were 5 television movies and a half-dozen novels).

I think that it would be interesting if Space: 1999 was remade. The disaster on the moon would need a more believable cause. They have to keep the Eagles though.

Remake:

Stargate, with people who aren't afraid of the premise

Enterprise, with the Birth of the Federation concept, not aimless space tourism and silly time travel BS

Clone Wars, with animation that isn't so hard on the eyes (I'd prefer live action but I know it's cost prohibitive) and no compunctions about changing Lucas' nonsense. I'd rather have a non-canonical story that solves the myriad problems of the prequels - let the audience decide which one they prefer as "canon." ;)

Heh. Canon isn't what it used to be. Canon is whatever appears onscreen, right? So canonically, who shot first? Han or Greedo?

I Am Legend - that would have actually been a good movie if they didn't ignore so many key elements from the book.

Canon is whatever is better or at least less stupid. Han has to shoot first to establish he's a selfish badass so that at the end of the movie, his rescue of Luke represents an actual arc. He can't be good in the end if he isn't bad at the beginning. If you're not doing an arc, why include the scene with Han and Greedo at all? Not to mention the utter implausibility that anyone could fail to hit Han at point-blank range. ARGH! Lucas doesn't comprehend the most basic elements of decent storytelling.

Oooh GOOD ONE! :bolian:

My answer is the the same as the last 10 times this topic came up: Max Headroom.
With TV, movies, music, news, gaming, social networking (not to mention all the pr0n) all getting rolled up into the interwebs the potential for a new dark satire is enormous.

Silent Running

It begs for a big screen adaptation. A real, done from the ground up re vamp.

Logan's Run

Fantastic Voyage

Maybe SOYLENT GREEN, although I'm not sure how you get around the fact that everyone knows the twist ending now.

Disagree. the original is just about perfect the way it is. Besides, you'll never top Bruce Dern's perfomance in that film.

Not necessarily. Like Network, Max Headroom may be one of those things that ceased to be a satire because it has come true.

I know Ray Bradbury has been trying to get a new version of Farenheit 451 made for years. That's one I'd like to see.

Logan's Run remake would be fun.

I'd definitely like to see a true version of I Am Legend but I suspect that will never be done on the big screen because the Hollywood types (and maybe mainstream audiences) would be put off by the lack of action. An HBO version of it perhaps?

"Mutant X" the original concept for the series after Marvel and Fox had their falling out regarding the use of X-Men characters. It would have featured a 12 Adam Zero as the main character leading a newly created batch of mutants against some kind of government conspiracy I believe. Probably wouldn't have featured Victoria Pratt but oh well, sacrifices must be made.

"Sliders" I loved the pilot and the first season of the show...then it started tailed off when it departed from it's original premise and ran out of alternate Earth's, how can you run out of ideas for alternate Earth's? Answer: They didn't hire me.

Do you mean more mundane? Unfathomable, dispassionate alien intelligences interfering in the destiny of man - there's a huge idea I'd be sorry to see go.

I can't think of a show that needs to be remade less than Space: 1999. They've already fucked it up once with that disastrous second series re-boot.
