Make Star Trek Phoenix the next series

Wow... a ridiculously oversized monstrosity of an ubership... how absolutely unique, fresh, and originally creative...

I like the ship better upside-down. I don't really give a damn what tv series they choose, as long as there is one! (prime universe please)

Will you all stop inputing your opinions? This guy just wants signatures for a petition. We don't want to hear about you, nor your 'I don't think this will work' attitude. Stop trying to flame him.

If you think there's anything in this thread even remotely approaching a flame, you better never venture anywhere near TNZ. :rommie:

This is a remarkably well behaved thread considering the topic is the much-derided "internet petition." You have to delve into Jar-Jar territory to find anything more roundly loathed.
Also an update on the petition, we now have 280 signatures.

Oh geeze louise, I've seen ones with 50,000 signatures that didn't do a damn thing. 50,000 is nothing in TV terms.

And if you'd have read anything about the petition, you would know that the goal is to reach much hight then 50,000 signatures. Stop thinking so small and actually open your mind to the BIG picture. I knew going into this that I wouldn't get anything accomplished with a mere 50,000 that is a fools number.

The plan is to get 1 million or more signatures before we do anything with it. I have also said that this campaign will not leave the internet until there is a new Trek series on TV or the group behind Phoenix gets a meeting with good old Les.

I might be getting the good people at TrekUnited behind the campaign as well.

We are also up to 346 signatures and the number continues to rise every day.

Unlike others, I have no problem being undiplomatic. Your effort wreaks of people with more creativity than business aptitude. Good luck with the petition, but if and when Trek comes back to TV (likely after the nuTrek films have been sufficiently milked) it will have nothing to do with your fan production or this petition. Why not focus your creativity on something new and not Trek related?

This is my opinion, it's backed by precedent, and this is a discussion board so I have every right to say so.

Temis, we both mentioned 50,000 as a number of signatures for something that went nowhere. I wonder if we're thinking the same thing...

The campaign is still on going.

Updating, we are getting new signatures every day and lately the majority of them are coming from Brazil and many other places over seas. The word of Phoenix and the fan campaign to bring it and Star Trek back to TV has gotten us to date 413 signatures and the number keeps growing every day.

Do you think that CBS Paramount, producing a TV series for the U.S. domestic market, will care a lot about signatures from Brazil? That's ancilliary.

CBS will care about the ratings and the profits they can get from this series. Every name on this petition means that much more people will spend to get this or any new Trek show that comes out. Not only have we getting signatures from the fans in brazil but also those serving in our armed forces.

To be quite honest with all the negative comments that have been posted here and on Trekweb, I would like to say to those nay sayers and non-believers that I am not just doing this for one fan series. Perhaps if this petition gets in front of the big wig at CBS his eyes will be open and the search for someone to begin work on some kind of series in the Trek Universe. I do think however it would be ideal to keep the movies in the new NuTimeline and a Series in the Prime Universe. My campaign will not end until we reach our goal or a new Trek series is TV, be it Phoenix or some other idea.

I'm not going anywhere and neither will the petition or campaign.

CBS will care about the ratings and the profits they can get from this series.

And fans in Brazil will yield no extra ratings for CBS in the US. Therefore the ad sales will not change. CBS may make some money on international sales, but series productions in the US still live or die on US ratings. I wish you the best of luck, but if you don't understand this, then I question if you understand what it will take to get a series made.

I've got to admit, I'm a little disheartened josh.heinrichs didn't say a single thing in reply to all the full-fledged reply I gave him. Maybe disheartened is the wrong word... I'd say the feeling is more akin to belated vindication.

I'm belatedly vindicated in my not having said much to begin with.

This is one of the better fan productions out there. Good graphics (generally) and good acting by some. I wasn't really fond of the ship, though. The hull reminded me too much of Voyager.

Some wooden acting and bad writing in parts, but that's to be expected with a fan-production. You can't expect the best of the best, because not even real Trek could deliver all the time.

But don't expect this to be any more than a fan-production. Even though you're optimistic about it, I doubt your petition will reach more than a few thousand if that, and I doubt even less CBS or any network would care. They have their big money spinner in the reboot, and if they really wanted to create a new Trek series, they'd do so regardless of what the fans say and more of how much money comes in off the back of it.

Good luck on your production!

Yes, it is.

This may be the wrong place to wish the producers luck with it, though, as the folks behind the petition aren't the producers and aren't claiming to be. Is there a topic for it in the Fan Productions forum? There should be.

In fact, Fan Productions is where this topic belongs.

My bad, as I assumed this was the producer/actor/whomever with the following bolded reply.

The first post was done by a fan. However, since it was littered with typo's and numerous other flaws, I (the creator of the effort) have created a newer and more informative petition that I encourage people to come and sign if they think this should be the next series.

Thank you.

My mistake.

I apologies for not giving you, a reply to your helpful suggestions. The only thing I can see being the problem with making t-shirts, pins, stickers and the like is that they will all have to say the name 'Star Trek' and not being endorsed by the people who own the rights means that you cannot make money off of any of this stuff to even help out the production. I think my next step as a campaign leader is commission a website about the whole campaign and give more in sight so people don't think of this as merely a 'fan wank' campaign as it's been called by some of the people who commented on the Trekweb.com article.

He's the creator of the petition effort. The producers, Temporal Studios, appreciate the campaign but are not involved in it. They have a press release here:

Phoenix is a very impressive production, but I would not want it to be the next Trek TV series.
