The Deep Beeb 1 tonight

She has a name!

It's Vera something or other... ;)

Vera Filatova in fact.

Won't get to watch the last ep till tomorrow night at the earliest unfortunately.

I didn't know there was a thread for this and I had to say after a good 1st episode, what the hell happened and whichever BBC Exec threw money at this project wants his ass firing. I gave up midway through episode 3 with the plot becoming more and more Ludicrous and the written dialogue was more than POOR, ffs it felt like the characters and what they said/did was written by a 10 year old.

poor BBC just poor.

^I'm finding it ok enough to finish the series, but unless something big changes I wouldn't miss it if it was cancelled.

So, did it improve over that embarrassing snore that was the first episode? How would those of you who watched the whole thing rate it?

Different strokes for different folks. The final episode was weaker than last weeks, although it had a few surprises. There was definitely too much relationship padding. I thought it was hilarious that Vincent finally finally found a decent use for his inane babbling. The motivations of the supporting villains needed more explanation as they made little sense as presented. They left a few threads hanging, including the ultimate fate of one of the characters, I suppose to leave open the possibility of a sequel.

Overall it was enjoyable with some episodes definitely being better than others. It needed tighter scripting and tighter pacing but I'd watch series two.

I gave up after the first episode as well. There's too much good stuff competing with this, and life's too short.

I liked the way all our suspicions were proved correct about Clem, although the behaviour of the baddies was baffling. At the end I didn't understand why, if they had the sample stashed away, they needed another boat. The last two episodes were substantially better than the third which was a disaster. I guess they left it like that in case they get another run commissioned. I think the BBC would need to be much more prescriptive about how tight the script needs to be, though.

SPOILERS

Would a nuclear explosion contaminate the site as much if not more than drilling for oil? For environmental scientists they seemed a bit blase about the whole thing.

I thought it was interesting enough to see this series though, but it wasn't good enough to keep me interested for any more.

SPOILERS!

Overall the show was ok. I think Deckerd sums it up best though, the script wasn't nearly tight enough, or else it was and just got stretched by the need to make five episodes. I think thei might have worked much better as two 90 minute episodes.

I actually found myself getting a bit bored in the last episode. When they all became unconscious summed the show up. I've never seen so many crisies one after another. It's like the script couldn't run for more than five minutes without the need to inject DRAMA! Seriously this felt like a role playing game, quick we need another crisis!

And the story seemed all over the place. I'm not saying it should have been predictable but there's little point in not killing Clem so he turn up this week for five minutes and get killed, especially since nobody on the Orpheus will ever know what he did. And don't even get me started on Svetlana. I'm pretty sure they killed off anyone who was remotely likeable (with the exception of Arkardy)

It wasn't terrible, it kept me watching and its nice to see the BBC making things like this, but the next Children of Earth it was not!

I can't imagine there'll be another series of this, there's nowhere for the story to go after all.

I'd be interested in the overall viewing figures. If it had a decent following then they might commission similar projects, which can only be a good thing.

True, and I'd rather they made stuff like this than didn't, I just wish it had been a little tighter!

Oh yeah, forgot to say...Francis saw a ghost?! Well I guess they had to have some reason to wake her up!

It looks to have averaged about 4 million. The highest was the first episode it had 5.62m, the lowest was episode 4 it had 3.2m the final overnights were 3.72m
