Series 6 kept back to Autumn 2011?

^I'm not sure Allyn has it right about the hours they work. I remember them saying 16 hour days, all night shoots etc. So the no overtime thing probably isn't true. The other thing is they shoot far more on location than most shows in the US and only a small amount of standing sets, and have only a few stars no ensemble like most US shows. I heard a quote saying that British Actors are getting a rep as the Mexican workers of Hollywood, they'll work harder and cheaper than US equivalents, so it can't really be that British schedules are easier.

Well I'm certain about how they film the new show but on the old series they'd rehease all week and shoot the ep. on Friday which would take about seven and a half hours. At least that was true of the show back in the '70s according to the text commentaries.

Now I don't know how much reheasal time they get on the new show, but it was a major part of production on the old series and I'm sure that extends the time to produce a ep. even for the new series.

As an aside to the earlier comment about budgets being cut on shows; haven't the Tories basically said that the BBC budget is getting cut in each of the next three years?

They can't cut the BBC's licence fee for the next 3 years, the licence fee settlement was made in 2007 and lasts for 6 years. The most they can do is not give them an increase in the final year and below inflation increased for the next 2. But discussions on the next settlement start next year, and they're making noises saying more or less everyone else is having to make cuts, so should the BBC... fucking idiots.
I think that's fair enough. The BBC are the fucking idiots for spending money stupidly if anything. Besides, the profits made from DW aren't put back into making the show. That's right daft, as they say in Ecclestonshire.

The profits from Doctor Who and any other show go to BBC Worldwide and after running costs the profit is put back in to the BBC as a whole. Somewhere around £160m, and increasing, every year is put back in to the BBC.

It is not fair enough, it is dense, everyone else is cutting back so cutting back on the BBC means even more lost jobs in the industry, it means less TV shows made in the UK, it means less stimulus to the economy through jobs, and regional spend, and profits from the indie producers and basically all round shit for the TV industry since no one else is really investing either.

It's not JUST the BBC. I remember talking with Dennis Skotak, who was the visual effects guy on the "Aliens" shoot in the UK in the mid eighties. He frequently noted how the unions watched him and his American team like hawks, and how everyone kept their scheduled lunch and tea breaks to the prescribed times and durations. Overtime was almost never allowed, and it was one of many things that drove James Cameron nuts on that film.

^We also have the European working time directives to deal with. It's been controversial of late, since it's been meaning doctors can't work long shifts in hospitals, so I'd assume it effects TV shooting schedules too.

could the TV unions and unions in general in the UK be responsible for the increase in severe obesity problems??

I think US TV Shooting schedules are much more efficient and the UK tv shooting schedules are just Nancy-Boy Slackers with one money grubbing hand out and the other on in a potato chip bag just waiting to take their 1 hour break for their 15 min. of work...

what is funny is it is no wonder why they go broke and have no money for budgeting the shows.. they pay the workers 30K a year in wages, and a retirement and benefits of 150K a Year..what a screwed up system indeed.. if they just pulled their welfare state asses a bit and actually worked on a Western Day schedule, we might get some top notch Whovian Shows that dwarf what we have ever seen..

But nah.. why do that, when you can snack on chips and watch tele for 5 hours out of a 6 hour work day??

best to be lazy, scoot over lumpy, and share some of your chips..I want something for nothing in this magical land of yours..

The man has a good point. If we worked harder maybe we'd make quality TV like a million different CSI and Law and Order variants just like the US.

From a certain point of view he does, sorry, I thought I had cut what he said originally down to this:

That's what I was replying too!

Nah it's a bullshit post. It's down to budget, people would work the overtime if they got paid better for it.

Keyboard warrior?

;)

Whatever his job is I wonder how much time he spends there working on his TARDIS blueprints?

I find it a bit difficult to translate, but in there was he knocking Britain for having a welfare system? That's not on. I know which country I'd rather get ill in as well.

I'm not sure which country he's from either. He gives the impression of being American but his spelling is British!
