Indiana Jones 5 Still Happening With Shia Says Shia...

one thing Abrams does well is fast-paced action, so I think he would probably be a good choice for director
If you think the next Indiana Jones flick should be a fast-paced, action movie.

Personally, I think it should be a solid, smaller scale movie that's personal to the Indy character.

"Nuked the Fridge" is a common term for = bad movie?
Really? I frequent many sites and have never, I mean NEVER heard that.
Sounds like a large bit of projecting and editorializing by the guy in that piece.

I really liked Indy 4 and I've dealt with the issues before here and elsewhere. Not going to change anyones mind but it wasn't a bad movie and fits with so much else established in the Indy film-verse. I'd have altered a few things sure but its a fine film.

All Indy adventures are crazy so for Shia to say that doesn't shock me.
Going after the Biblical Lost Ark, yeah that's routine.
Mystical stones containing diamonds that bring life to dead geography, normal.
Of course a regular brass cup that brings eternal life and heals is very regular.

"Nuking the fridge" is the new "Jumping the shark".

Just because you say it is doesn't make it so. I've never seen it used except maybe once or twice on this board.

One funny thing that happens over time is the movies that seemed action-packed then now seem a little less so when we compare them to modern stuff.
I think the Connery Bond films are great, but they seem to me to have fewer and shorter action scenes than what we get now. They would almost be more like thrillers compared to what we'd call action today.
I think it happened with Superman Returns as well, where I think there was as much action as most of the other four (except in relation to the second one) but many people now think the 2006 movie had less action than all the others. It's quite a subjective thing though.

My point with Indy movies is that Kingdom of the Crystal Skull had that interminable chase through dense jungle that tried like the Star wars prequels to throw so much at you that they felt you'd just have to be satisfied.
So I welcome anything that tries to keep the action a little more 'realistic' (like that explosion at the start of Die Hard: With A Vengeance) and not too long or that close to ridiculous. (in my opinion)

A little silliness never hurt anyone.

The fact is, ALL the Indiana Jones movies have weird shit in them. That's what makes them movies.

I agree with both of you. I mean, sure, I thought the fridge thing was weird at first.... until I thought about the inflatable raft in Temple of Doom. I even thought the interdimensional beings (not aliens!) were an odd choice... until I thought about the spirits who came out of the Ark to melt the Nazis, the magic stones from Temple of Doom, and the fact that Crusade had a centuries-old knight who'd been lying in wait all this time for someone to come along and choose the right water goblet. Really, are interdimensional beings that much of a stretch?

Yep. Even more so than aliens. Which were too off for and Indy movie in my opinion.

As I said before, I don't think they should introduce time travel into a Star Wars movie, and there shouldn't be any robots in the next Harry Potter.

Yeah, you said it before but you didn't explain your rationale. There are lots of precedents for pulp heroes who met and fought aliens, it's pretty much a staple of the genre. What makes Indiana Jones so different from other similar characters?

Well, just because you haven't seen it much also doesn't make it NOT so.

Precedents, schmecedents. It's about what feels right, and aliens don't feel right in an Indiana Jones movie. There's also precedent for pulp heroes who travelled to other planets in space rockets, but that wouldn't feel right for Indiana Jones either, would it?

I really can't explain it other than Indy is an archeologist so I expect him to find rare, old things from our planet. Not so much to ask I think.
I'd bet good money that if they do make another movie they'll be sure to steer clear of aliens not just because they already did it in the last movie but they must've seen how poorly received the film was. Some may call it the best Indy film (one or two people here have said so) but it's just not the majority view.

There could have been precedent to the contrary as far back as the very first film.

The Ark of the Covenant itself was referred to in the first film (by Sallah and not Indy, I'll grant you) as "something that man was not meant to find" and described as being "not of this Earth." Whether that is actually supposed to mean that it came from somewhere other than this planet, I can't really discern from those two quotes alone, but it would at least seem to call this into question.

Forced meme is forced.

What do you think? Pretty funny but I think “Jumped the Shark” rolls off the tongue easier.

Hiding in the fridge didn't bother me. It's that the fridge went flying really fucking far and he didn't even seem to hurt himself.

That's true!

I believe the camera took the time to focus on "lead lined" or something to let you know Indy would apparently be safe from radiation...but the blast throwing him what seemed to behalf a mile was a bit much.
Also, it seems most every time this is brought up someone mentions
jumping out of the airplane in the inflatable raftin Temple of Doom
but that was a lot more plausible than him being at pretty much ground zero for an A bomb.

Guilty as charged. Although I doubt a spoiler is necessary at this point. Besides, neither is as plausible as the tank going off the cliff with Indy presumably still onboard in Last Crusade. This is due in part to the way the scene is shot, so that there actually was time enough for him to possibly get off before the thing went falling to its destruction.

Apparently only to haters of the film.
The author of that piece implies its a now 'common' term.
To that I say he is wrong. A small minority sure, everyone, no. I'm not seeing it. Here, BOM or elsewhere after 2yrs.

This is a far cry of PROOF of COMMONALITY. WOW, it made the Urban Dictionary!! A site kept up by basement dwelling losers. Color me unimpressed.

FAIL, by you...and the author frankly of proving Nuke the Fridge is some common deregatory now exchanged on the 'net for something bad.

Yeah, it should have skidded past the car on the ground (like the plane in Last Crusade) as opposed to flying over it.

After they sullied the franchise with the last film, I really don't care if its made or not. "Mutt" sucked as a character and Shia is horrible to watch in any role.

I'm sure I'll watch it through netflix or something, but my expectations are negative.
