Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick

Any fans of these two movies here?

I bought the movies the other day. I thought they were pretty good. Not a bad way to kill four hours.

Pitch Black obviously was influenced by the first Alien movie. The monsters were actually the least interesting part of the movie for me. Vin Diesel was pretty good as the criminal Riddick, and I liked how the group was forced to depend on Riddick because of his see in the dark eyes. Most of the movie is about the survivors being picked off one by one by the monsters. It had a really great ending though, I was actually surprised by who made it at the end.

Chronicles of Riddick feels like an entirely different movie. It feels much bigger. It's Sci-Fi action, which made me like it a little more than the first movie, and even Riddick gets to be a Chosen One. The Necromongers felt like the Borg to me and it was a fun seeing Riddick take down legions of them without much trouble. I still don't know what they wanted, something about finding another universe. I was really surprised to see the future Dr McCoy, Karl Urban, in this. It also had another great twist ending, with Riddick sitting there in the chair. The only real problem I had with it was that they really crammed so much plot into it. This movie felt like the third movie of a trilogy!

I have no clue how they are going to do the next one. But I'm looking forward it seeing it.

Huge Chronicles of Riddick fan (there are occasional threads here on them) and am looking forward to the third movie...and agree on your points regarding the sequel. It felt like it was jamming too much back story and mythology but it didn't feel quite right after the first film which was condensed and contained thriller sci-fi thriller.

I LOVED Chronicles of Riddick! I also really enjoyed the video game, Escape from Butchers Bay.

I want another movie, I think it was a pretty awesome take on the future.

I enjoy these movies as well. The first was a good thriller, while Chronicles, the Butcher Bay game and the anime do a decent job of creating an original sci-fi universe.

I give Vin Diesel credit for the relative originality of the Riddick-verse, we don't get enough of that kind of thing in movies.

The Chronicles Of Riddick is probably my favourite 'universe building' film in the last decade or so.

I enjoyed Pitch Black as an above average monster movie with a few interesting gimmicks, particularly the way the camera would switch to Riddick and monster point of view shots to show us how each saw in the dark.

I didn't like the sequel nearly as much. The effort to turn Riddick, a seemingly simple character in the original, into some kind of super hero came off as, I don't know, just kind of silly. But it's been a number of years since I saw it so I should probably give it another go before writing it off.

Is Dark Fury worth checking out? It's on my dvd set, but I'm a little reluctant to watch it since it's not live action like the other two movies.

Dark Fury is alright. It's fun enough to be enjoyable, but in terms of actual story, it's pure filler.

never saw Pitch Black except a small part towards end when one or more of them got attacked by those creatures..I don't even really remember much from it.

I really liked Chronicles of Riddick...that's the kind of role I think fits Diesel. can't say I've liked much if any of him in other movies..but I really did enjoy Riddick.

I liked both and I'd be happy to see more movies in the sequence. The big differences between Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick don't really bother me. Movies can be of entirely different types and still exist within the same universe. In fact, I like that - it's unusual.

That's good, because the next film is a smaller budget character piece.

I heard about that. I wouldn't mind smaller movies if it meant more sequels. They really don't need that much money to tell a good Riddick story.

The third movie when last I checked was subtitled "The Chronicles of Riddick: Dead Man Stalking" and continues a few monthsafter the events of the second and deals the events of that film. They were doing scouting locations a few months back. Not sure when production on the film was supposed to start.
