Anyone notice that Scotty is wearing the Science Division insignia on his red tunic instead of the Engineering Division insignia in the Season 3 episode "The Lights of Zetar"? Here is a picture of him wearing it.

The script was written by ventriloquist Shari Lewis (Lambchop puppet) and her husband, they were Star Trek fans. She wanted to play Scotty's love interest Lt. Mira Romaine, but did not get the part. Mira Romaine was played by actress Jan Shutan, here is a picture. Mira Romaine was originally supposed to be Scotty's new engineering assistant according to memory-alpha.org. I don't know why they changed her to the Science Division before filming the episode.

I watched "Where No Man Has Gone Before" last night and the insignias were all over the place.

"Where No Man Has Gone Before" was the 2nd Star Trek pilot, the Science and Engineering insignias were switched when Star Trek became a series. "The Corbomite Maneuver" was the first episode of Star Trek filmed after the 2 pilots.

My guess is because someone (possibly Doohan himself) thought it would be improper for an officer to express interest in someone under his command.

Really? It was the second pilot? I never knew. ;)

Good point.

I think we just found the next pic for the caption contest.

The captions are gonna get real dirty real fast me thinks...

Sorry, but McCoy is an amateur. I use THREE fingers for giving maximum pleasure.

Watching Devil In The Dark tonight, I noticed quite a few bits were filmed over Kirk's shoulder (warning the Horta off with the phaser, Spock's meld). Only thing is, it looks like someone other than Shatner as Kirk with his back to us.

Anyone agree?

It's rather well known that Shatner's dad died during the filming of this episode, and his stunt double was used for some of the filming, hence the over the shoulder shots.
