What They Could Have Done...

Purpose of this thread is to discuss ways in which the crews of various starships could have solved problems in the movies and likely came away much better off, disregarding the "Hollywood and Dramatic" element, of course... so anyway i'll start

Star Trek III: The Search For Spock

Idea: Rather than stealing the Enteprise, Kirk and Co should have stolen the Excelsior,

Scotty is assigned to the Excelsior, while there he could have familiarised himself with the Ship and its functions (although he probably knew them already since he was responsible for many Starship Redesigns) While there he comes up with a way to bypass security protocols, etc and standsby waiting for Kirk's signal

Kirk realises that he has an ideal opportunity to bargain, he takes Sarek hostage! (with his permissions of course) Since he has kidnapped a Diplomat, the Federation will be more willing to let him go (in order to assure Sarek's safety), they then go and bust McCoy out of jail

Uhura meanwhile waits for Kirk and Co to arrive, when they do arrive, they simultaneously beam up Kirk and Co and beam of the Excelsior crew (barring Scotty and whomever) to Earth, perhaps a couple of miles away from Communicator Signal

When Kirk and Co gain control of the Excelsior they escape Spacedock as per usual, however this time they inform Starfleet Command that they have Sarek aboard, this forces Starfleet to go to the Federation Council, thus stalling more time

Kirk and the others arrive in the Mutara Sector with a brand new ship, fully functional shields and weapons and thus the BOP is no match for them

The BOP decloaks and the Excelsior promptly disables the ship, Kruge rants that he has prisoners on the surface, with Kirk bargaining, Scotty drops the shields and quickly beams up Saavik, Spock, David and the Klingons on the surface, with Sulu and Chekov waiting in the Transporter Room armed to the teeth

Kirk beams aboard Kruge and locks him and his crew in the brig, while he orders Sulu to take the BOP in tow and head for Vulcan, they get away safely and arrive at Vulcan, with everyone alive and well, Spock is restored, later Sarek and a Vulcan Crew take Excelsior back to Starfleet with the Klingons in custody, Starfleet demands the extradition of Kirk and Co and so begins the tense diplomatic chaos, resulting in the Voyage Home going ahead as normal

As I stated in my OP, Uhura would use the Old City Transporter Station to beam the entire Excelsior Crew (although a full crew would likely not be onboard, since Excelsior was still in its experimental stages) off the ship as she beams Kirk and Co onboard

But I do agree that 5 vs 500 is a little hard, but consider the type of Captain that Kirk is and just the pure amount of experience and ability between Kirk, Scotty, McCoy, Sulu, Chekov and Uhura, if anyone can pull something like that off, then they definatly can

No offense, but I vastly prefer the way Star Trek III actually happened, instead of that convoluted mess.

Easy: you simulate a reactor core meltdown a la "11001001" and when they eject the now empty ship from Shroomdock, you run off with it.

Instead of inching away from Reliant, the Enterprise could have simply blasted it. I assume that wouldn't detonate Genesis since it hadn't finished building up towards that anyway. That would have prevented a lot of heartache, but also a lot of great screen drama.

None taken...like I stated in my OP

Obviously this will mean doing away with the "Dramatic Elements" in most cases, however I do agree with you...the way TSFS actually happened was decent enough (just I think if they did it without the dramatic restrictions, they could have succeeded without any losses and they could have captured a BOP with full crew)

I like the core of the idea: Suppose they beam aboard Excelsior and quickly order everyone to evacuate. This would only be a small skeleton crew since it isn't finished. And after all Kirk was still an admiral, he could have done so.

Then they steal Excelsior, which is still unarmed, and are forced to blow it up when they encounter the Klingons. We could still have the awesome starship destruction scene, though without the emotional impact of it being the Enterprise. In IV they get the original ship back.

Without all that time wasted on Khan, there would be much more time for Kirk to try to get Saavik in the sack.

He could invite her back to his quarters to watch his favorite video, that turns out to be Vulcan Love Slave part VII.

Instead of that bird-guy, McCoy meets Harry Mudd in the bar, trying to hire his ship. Both get tossed in jail. Kirk and Co. break McCoy out but leave Harry in for old time's sake and steal his ship, then lose it at Genesis as in the film. In TVH, instead of the A, the ship's a refurbished NCC-1701.

In STII, Kirk could have raised the Enterprise's shields out of simple caution instead of keeping them down to make it easier for the ship to get heavily damaged.

In ST: Generations Picard could have gone back further in time to stop Soren instead of choosing to go back only twenty minutes to add to the tension.

In ST: Insurrection Picard could have supported Dougherty's plan instead of taking the side of 600 selfish Luddites who were monopolizing an incredibly valuable resource.

Nemesis: Picard and company could have raised forcefields in the corridor when the Reman soldiers boarded the Enterprise, transported them into space/into the brig, or flooded the corridor with light to temporarily paralyze the soldiers -- although I imagine they had shades of some sort.

STII: Sensing danger and aware of regulations, Kirk raises shields when approached by the Reliant. He makes short work of the hijacked starship, rescues the marooned crew, reinforces the Genesis Project's defenses, and delivers Khan to a Federation penal colony.

STIII: Sarek requisitions a ship from the Vulcan embassy, declares it a diplomatic vessel, and flies to Genesis on a well-publicized fact-finding mission. The Klingons don't dare fire a consular ship, not with the whole galaxy watching. Sarek retrieve his son's body, reunites it with McCoy on Vulcan, and all live happily ever after.

STV: The ambassadors suborned by Sybok convince their respective governments that an expedition to the galactic core is a good idea. Although the joint expedition only discovers an evil telepathic alien, easily dispatched, the cooperative effort is seen as a model for future operations and inspires a new era of peace.

STVI: Three-dimensional sensors and a spatial modeling program are used to prove that the photon torpedoes fired at the Kronos did not come from the Enterprise. The same program is fielded to all ships in the Fleet, rendering Chang's BoP useless in any protracted battle.

STVII: The Starfleet High Commissioner for Refugees grants every El-Aurian a plot of land and a small starship. Soran flies his into the Nexus.

STIX: Picard obeys his orders and the Federation makes its citizens immortal. The Baku are slightly peeved that they have been moved to a new planet which is almost exactly like their old one, but they are granted Federation citizenship and immortality, so no one cares what they think.

STX: B4 is delivered by fast courier shuttle to Bruce Maddox's research activity. Using non-destructive techniques, Maddox quickly determines that B4 has been reprogrammed by Shinzon. His warning allows the Terran defense fleet to mobilize several hours earlier than it otherwise would have, and the Scimitar is destroyed.

Another thing about Nemesis...since Ambassador Spock is on Romulus (and has in the past sent messages to the Federation and Starfleet warning them of Romulan activity) would he not have sent a message somehow to the Federation informing them of Shinzon and how he assassinated the Romulan Senate, while also noting that he was human and beared a striking resemblance to Picard

If this all got through to the Federation, they would sent an entire Fleet Of Starships to Romulus to not only proceed with the "Talks" but to have "backup" in case the Romulans tried a sneak attack, also with the extra ships, they would have detected the Thalaron Radiation sooner and disabled the Scimitar promptly before taking Shinzon into custody

ST Eleven.

Spock leaves Vulcan a half hour earlier, destroys the supernova, Romulus is save, Spock is a hero in both the Federation and the Empire, this pushes through reunification.

Spock and Kirk (resurrected in the Shatnerverse) celebrate by taking Kirk's late father's vintage corvette for a spin in the Iowa countryside.

Nero is found guilty of stealing Romulan state secrets (Borg technology) to rebuild his broken down old mining ship and is slowly executed. His wife casually moves on to another tattooed miner. She's apparently hot for tattooed guys.

We don't know that he's still there during Nemesis. chances are, when the Dominion War broke out, and the Romulans to begine with signed a non-aggression treaty with them that Spock had to leave Romulus, due to being assigned elsewhere, or the increased risk of being a Federation citizen on a world that's friendly with the Fed's enemy.

Star Trek 2: I always wondered why Chekov made it so obvious to Khan that he was hiding something. When Khan was asking him why they were there, Chekov should have just said that they detected lifesigns on what they thought was a lifeless planet, so they stopped to investigate, not knowing that it was actually Ceti Alpha V. Khan would have never found out about Genesis, and at worst would have just nicked the Reliant and gone after Kirk.

They should have beamed just one person into the USS-Enterprise, after all it was a one man job, if they'd done it this way, Chekov would not have been captured
