Does anyone find DS9 to be a bit of a yawn?

Is it just me .. or does anyone else find DS9 a bit of a yawn? I mean .. they just sit there .. orbiting that wormhole .. day after day. They don't go anywhere .. much.

I love Star Trek .. I've downloaded every movie and TV series complete .. except for DS9. I AM downloading it now .. but just to complete the collection.

To me .. it seems like "Melrose Place" .. on a space station.

I want to "explore new worlds and go where no man has been before" .. not sit around on a rusty old Cardassion space station twiddling my thumbs.

Anyone else?

You're downloading...

Well, there are some weak episodes, but each series has them. DS9 has its strong moments too and clearly the unknown comes to them, so they have their hands full. It's different from TNG, but I still like it, maybe because it's different. Different mood, different series ;)

There is some episodes which make me want to skip but hey its a great series.
The character development is brilliant as the series progresses.
I very much enjoy ds9, keep watching and you will star to enjoy DS9 :)
I only discovered DS9 this year and wasnt sure i would enjoy it, but its great.

If you're effectively stealing them, I don't think you have the right to criticize them.

Anyway .. I still watch it .. it's just at the bottom of the list. Just a preference.

So .. is discussion of torrents against the rules or what? Spare me the philosophical lectures .. just let me know.

I live in Thailand (4 years now) .. I haven't seen any legal copies of any western movies/TV anywhere here. Lots of copies though. Nobody sells them because they just can't compete with the pirate copies being sold in just about every market.

Being a foreigner here also makes it next to impossible to obtain a credit card for online purchases. It's even next to impossible to link a Thai bank account to Paypal (I've tried)

All the foreigners I know here (and probably ones I don't know).. download torrents .. It's one of only a couple of options (both illegal)

...there's only so much Thai TV you can take.

Yes, it is just you. :)

OK .. Nice to know. Thanks. Can you direct me to poll where you deduced that answer?

I'll look on the bright side. I'm unique. I'm the only person in the universe to have DS9 on the bottom of my preference list.

Amazing!

My comment wasn't philosophical or a lecture. It was an opinion. 'S'what we're all about.

^ No worries.

So the occasional mention of torrents is not a "forum mortal sin" then?

Some do. Most don't, at least not on this site. This forum is rather DS9 friendly, most people on this forum like DS9 even if it's not their favourite show, and if often wins in various "favourite series" polls. For example, here's the latest poll of that type and DS9 won it with 42% of the vote.

DS9 isn't about exploring strange new worlds, it's about exploring the worlds we already know about in further depth and telling a grand story that has consequences throughout the galaxy. It also has the best character development of all the Star Trek shows. It's a different type of show to the other Star Treks, but that's a good thing.

How far are you into the show? Because it starts out very slowly, season 1 is considered my most to be the weakest link in the series. By the time you reach season 3 or 4 the show has evolved considerably, you certainly can't characterise it as a group of people twiddling their thumbs.

It is. For your convenience: Here.

Oh boy, looks like sarcasm is lost on you. Of course you are not the only person who doesn't like Deep Space Nine. What's the purpose of this thread if obviously you already knew the answer to your question beforehand?

... and in the mean time .. until my situation changes (like going back to Oz and buying legal copies) .. I'll just say nice things about DS9.

Errr .. hang on .. do I have the "right" to say nice things? ... or is that out too? Now I'm confused.

DS9 had the worst premise, but the best character development and as good acting and writing as TNG.

To be fair though, I thought it only got good when they discovered the Dominion. Season one (bar Duet and Emmisary) was poor, and Season two IMO was so-so.

How far are you into the show?

I've probably watched up to about Season 3 or so on TV .. back in Australia.

If you guys would notice .. I said it was a "bit" of a yawn. Not a "total" yawn.

Just wanted to know who thought likewise. Judging from the "bit" of sensitivity displayed so far .. I have my answer .. at least from the demographic here.

PS .. Any answer on the torrent question yet?

:wtf:

Err .. cough .. "I" was being "sarcastic".

No .. I didn't know. I'm not surrounded by Trekkies and this is the first time in my life I've joined a ST related forum. (plenty of non SciFi ones though)

Hope you have a good anti-virus program

Judge not lest ye be judged.

Anyway, S1 has some weak episodes but just wait..........................

I had the same attitude too, until Way of the Warrior.
