Right. Any team's fans will excuse even the most blatant homer-ism - as long as it's by their own broadcasters.... When we listen to the radio or watch TV, we want to hear a cheering section.

Chip Caray's seven-year reign of terror in the Cubs' broadcast booth was sheer torture, and I (and many others) were so elated at his departure in 2004 that there was fornicating in the streets. Much like Joe Buck, talk about a guy who has a job solely because of who his sperm donor was.
There's a difference between being a raging homer, like Caray, Michael Kay (
) or Hawk Harrelson, all three of whom I absolutely cannot stand due to their utterly shameless fellating of their team and denigrating the opposition, and merely having a positive slant for the team, like the Cubs' Len Kasper, the Orioles' Gary Thorne, or Cincinnati's Marty Brennaman (his son can go suck a tailpipe, though).
