Okay, now I'm corn-fused:

The new image, printed in today's USA Today, shows Hemsworth in his mortal identity of Don Blake, muscles rippling, apparently struggling to lift Mjolnir.

So...they're not going with the idea that Don Blake is a crippled doc who is kinda scrawny? Is his backstory too close to Steve Rogers', so they changed it since the Captain America movie is also due out soon?

Or, more likely, the writer of said article doesn't know what he's talking about.

The Marvel booth at Comic-Con has Odin's throne from the movie on display. AICN put up a pic of it:

I grew up a Marvel fanboy, and while its cool to see the visuals hewing close to the comics, I don't see the hook in this for the non-fan. I'm thinking this is going to do Daredevil business, not Iron Man.

While anything is possible I wouldn't count on it.
It does open the summer slate so it has that going in its favor. It also has a stellar cast with award type talent in Hopkins and Portman. Then its brand is also something likely to help. John Q moviegoer knows what "Marvel" is now vs say 20yrs ago. They largely like Spiderman, X-Men, Blade and Iron Man and because the "Marvel" logo is attached to those they don't register the different studios involvement.

I think Captain America may be hurt from a mid summer open + opens one week after HP-DH pt.1.

Remember many across the box office predict sites said identical things about Iron Man. A B-lister the masses, if that, know of in some capacity. Millions later and a sequel has the entertainment media trying to position the Green Lantern movie as "the next Iron Man".

As of now I think Thor is very capable of hitting at/around $200m at minimum. That would place it in line with the X-Men films.

They said there's no Donald Blake; Thor has to recover his hammer and stuff, but they aren't bothering with the Blake/mortal bit.

Yeah, that's true, the big names and Marvel association will help. I guess the difference I see with Iron Man is that IM was based completely in a present-day setting with the super-abilities coming from cool tech. Thor, OTOH has all the Asgard goofiness in apparent straight-up 60s style. That's what I think could be a turn-off. But, my predictive powers aren't exactly superhero level so it'll probably do boffo bucks.

It will be interesting to see how all of these second-tier heroes do next year.

It's for the best. I always thought the Don Blake stuff was kind of weird anyway. I never really got whether he was supposed to be Thor or another person. If he was Thor, it was strange, because his speech and thought processes were a lot different than Thor's.

In the begining he was Don Blake given the power of Thor and spoke normally. That quickly changed to him being the real Thor and talking Shakespearian.

Marvel has unveiled Thor's helm at Comic-Con, along with Loki's and presumably Odin's. You can see them here.

I'm not gonna lie: I got a little excited when I saw Thor's helmet.
