Anyone planning to read Spider-man: One Moment in Time?

The Spider-man Crawl Space is still largely anti-BND, but how are the non-affiliated comics fans here feeling? I'll admit to be curious, despite not much liking OMD and the disappearance of the marriage (and not being much impressed by what's followed). If you are interested, what are your predictions?

I'll read it when it arrives in trade...also there's been a rumor out there that the Spider office plans on ending BND around issue 647 and there's supposed to be a major announcement at comic con. They're also talking about having there be a new Spider-Man...the editor talked about a "better" Spider-Man other than Peter. We'll see what's announced next weekend. I'm pretty sure I started an OMIT thread when it was first announced.

My impression of what's meant by "ending Brand New Day" is the current thrice-monthly format on Amazing with rotating creative teams and it will be replaced with a biweekly Amazing written by Dan Slott. The thrice-monthly ASM wasn't a bad idea -- publish the same amount of Spidey comics as they had in the past, only under one title instead of under three different titles (Amazing, Spectacular, Web/Friendly Neighborhood). For a time, "BND" Amazing did outsell what the previous three titles were selling combined. Today, Amazing is on a sales decline.

I think it's very unlikely that OMIT will "undo" the One More Day retcon.

Ben Reilly, maybe?

In the latest issue Peter's clone Kaine (who was killed last issue after getting a shave and haircut and looking like a scarred Peter) is shown crawling out of his grave and looks to be taking the name of Tarantula. Also, Sasha Kravinoff pissed Peter off so much that he gave her the "Mark of Kaine".

I'll definitely check it out. Hmm, I haven't actually read One More Day yet, I better get on that before this comes out.

OMIT is supposed to reinforce the retcon, not undo it.

Replacing Peter at this point would be stupid. Of course, that would be par for the course for Joe the Q.

In all likelihood, you are correct.

At this point the only thing that could restore the marriage into continuity is for Quesada to be replaced by someone who doesn't have a grudge against it or for Disney to issue a decree that the devil should not have won and to change it back.

I'll see if I can find the article in question so you guys can read it...as I stated it seems like it was a rumor. OMIT is supposed to tell us what happened at Peter and Mary Jane's wedding that caused them to end their relationship. Also 647 is like a year and half away so there is plenty of time to still continue BND. Here is the mind bending interview in question I referenced above...

Actually, issue 637 was just released this week. So, given there are three issues per month, issue 647 is due to be released in October. Definitely NOT a year and a half away.

And this rumored change in publication is more likely due to the recent promotions of Steve Wacker and Tom Brevoort. Wacker was the person Marvel wooed away from DC as he was doing the weekly Countdown series a few years back. And they brought him over to do the near-weekly Amazing Spider-Man. Now that he is being given other and greater responsibilities, they are cutting Amazing down to 2 monthly issues. Likely because they don't have confidence in the new editor to coordinate three issues of the same series every month. I have heard they are planning a new series for Spider-Man, but they don't have to be as in close synch as three issues of the same book.

Yeah thanks for the correction...I'd for some reason forgot about the muti-issue per month thing. Yeah I guess that would put 647 down around October. I'm curious...anyone know what the sales have been for Amazing? I've read from other fans that it's been considerably down over the last few months or so.

I was surprised by the rumour that BND was ending, because I thought it had officially ended with the arc that was specifically called "Brand New Day." Did someone backtrack on that? If so, it might be that there's some biggish changes on the horizon.

Marvel ditched the "Brand New Day" branding long ago, around Amazing #563. The post-One More Day continuity will stay intact, Marvel's now ditching the thrice-monthly publication schedule.

Yeah I think fans just have nothing else to call this era of Spider-Man...unless we start referring to it as the Slott/Joe Q era. We know Joe has his paws all over this.

I just read it and quite enjoyed it...they duplicated almost page per page straight from the wedding annual right down to the art and type of coloring they used. We also learned what MJ whispered to Mephisto as well.

Actually I have the wedding issue on DVD-ROM and they literally reused like ten pages, it was pretty cool.

MJ's whisper is either really underwhelming or it actually brings the whole OMD/BND/OMIT story in line with traditional devil lore, or it's a paradox built on a paradox ... I'm trying not to spoil anything because this thread didn't start as a discussion thread. And because every time someone has come up with an intriguing guess as to where Spider-man is going and how to reconcile everything we know about the Mephisto deal, it turns out the actual answer is always something prosaic.

That Paolo Rivera can sure draw, though. Good stuff.
