Details have been revealed of three new characters who will appear in the upcoming fourth series of Torchwood.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the new episodes - which will be co-produced by the BBC and US network Starz - will introduce new regular Rex Matheson, a "CIA agent born to make waves" with a "wicked" sense of humour.

The show will also introduce two new recurring characters - Oswald Jones, a convicted murderer and paedophile, and Esther Katusi, a young CIA agent "who learns what she’s really made of only when she’s forced to".

Both roles are said to be "key to the new season".

Casting for all three parts is believed to be ongoing.
cant say im surprised to see some CIA involvement in this series.

RRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrex!

Rex? I mean seriously... Rex?
Rex Ranger, Doctor Rex Mason, PHD..LOL
Rex Harrison..

Hmmm.. maybe it is overdue for the return of the REX! hahahahahahhahaa!

I hope the convicted murderer/molester is a villain and not a "forced" team member..
I don't think I could be down with that as an aspect of the show.. given the provocative "we like to push the envelope" nature of RTD and the Show's History.. Is the only reason I say that...

Hmm, I have visions of a Hannibal Lector type character locked up but with knowledge they need.

Rex Matheson? Born to make waves? God I hate casting descriptions of characters...

Oh good, a paedophile murderer character is RTD's latest attempt to write something grown up and edgy. What a fool.

In other words the people who write for Law & Order, CSI, NCIS, and all the other shows are fools too. Thanks. If you hate RTD so much, just don't watch the damn thing. The rest of us are content to wait and actually find out what the plan is. Sheesh.

The only thing that annoys me right now (other than the apparently unstoppable RTD hatred) is the fact some media (such as http://www.seattlepi.com/tvguide/423365_tvgif14.html) continue to refer to this as a remake, rather than a new season. This is actually important because a lot of people - myself included - tend to ignore remakes, given their disastrous track record (most recently the clusterfrak that was the US version of Life on Mars). Knowing it's not a remake, I'm keeping an open mind until the show actually airs.

I wouldn't worry too much Alex, it wouldn't actually matter what RTD did, he would be wrong as far as Bones is concerned. RTD could personally rescue kids from a burning building and Bones' probably accuse him of starting the fire so he could push his gay firefighter agenda :)

For me, TW only had one good season, CoE. I'm not sure how Americanising is going to work but I'll give it a chance. However, a kiddie-diddler as a recurring character? That's a little off-putting. If it's done as a character with information they need, as Starkers suggested, then maybe... maybe.

That's completely out of order. You rotter.

I'd imagine that said character will eventually receive a horrific and gruesome death once his usefulness has run out. Although i can understand why such a character would make people uncomfortable.

I'm a tad wary of having CIA agents however. Torchwood is a top secret British organisation afterall.

really? he is the best kind of peadophile, a fictional peadophile, he has not hurt anybody.

Why did I suddenly have an image of RTD, mamosa in hand, and chill-in on that bed in that spaceship with the Lead singer from the Darkness in that "I believe in a thing called love" video...
