Torchwood S4 new character spoilers

For me, TW only had one good season, CoE. I'm not sure how Americanising is going to work but I'll give it a chance. However, a kiddie-diddler as a recurring character? That's a little off-putting. If it's done as a character with information they need, as Starkers suggested, then maybe... maybe.

I'd imagine that said character will eventually receive a horrific and gruesome death once his usefulness has run out. Although i can understand why such a character would make people uncomfortable.
really? he is the best kind of peadophile, a fictional peadophile, he has not hurt anybody.

I don't have a problem with the character myself, like you said he's fictional. But that doesn't mean i can't understand why some people would have issues. For some merely broaching the subject of paedophilia in any form, fiction or otherwise, makes them exceedingly uncomfortable. And the BBC is certain to receive complaints about the character no matter what RTD and co do with him.

the BBC will get complaints about almost anything*, did it get any off the back of Small Worlds?

* for those who dont know, the BBC got complaints about the 11th Doctor saying he wasnt ginger, and ginger peope complianed.

As I see it, most of the time if the BBC is getting complaints, its probaly becasue the BBC is doing something worthwhile.

What i predict will happen is the same thing that usually does when it comes to the BBC and complaints: There will be one or two complaints the night it airs, the papers will print some derogatory nonsense claiming RTD is out to corrupt the nations youth, and then the BBC will be swamped with complaints made by people who haven't even watched the show yet have been offended somehow.

I'm not sure what to think about these new characters...I think i might reserve judgment until at least casting happens however what's with the characters being secretly in love with each other? Didn't we get that enough with Tosh and Owen? As for Torchwood being a secret British organization yes but it would seem the rebuilding process includes expansion towards a global reach, it only makes sense after the world reaching events of COE. I agree that COE was Torchwood's best series but the entire series imo is brilliant and improves on the previous season which a proper show should.

Oh good, a paedophile murderer character is RTD's latest attempt to write something grown up and edgy. What a fool.

I'm sorry, but after Children of Earth, that post is just pure bullshit. RTD has written material that was genuinely grown up and edgy, and he has nothing to prove.

I also forgot about Owen and Gwen's affair....Ianto and Jack until they consummated their relationship so this has been done before but I guess we'll wait and see. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the lack of Alfonso? I'm guessing though that this is Gwen's restructuring of Torchwood and that Jack will return to Earth at some point during the premier.

Well, really it's been bullshit since The Second Coming, if not Queer as Folk.

My ode to RTD's pedophile for Torchwood..

Ahem.. Is it me, or are those roundels in the back of the darkness singer?? how ironic..:D ahahahahahahahahaaa

I wouldn't worry too much Alex, it wouldn't actually matter what RTD did, he would be wrong as far as Bones is concerned. RTD could personally rescue kids from a burning building and Bones' probably accuse him of starting the fire so he could push his gay firefighter agenda :)
That's completely out of order. You rotter.

Tis true though.

Not liking the idea of what I've read, seems so well American. However will hold off judgement until I actually watch it before calling people fools.

No it's not.

On the upside, at least it's put the kibosh on a Torchwood/SJA crossover. Well, I would hope anyway.

I liked Torchwood, mainly for Eve Myles and Kai Owen. I really liked the relationship she had with her husband Rhys and how it developed through the show. He also seemed he'd be better running Torchwood than Capt Jack, too, maybe that's just me. I don't know about the new show ans having US producers getting involved, that will just be more fingers and conflicting interests involved. I would expect less British sensibility and more US in characterisation as well as plots. RTD may end up regretting he got what what he wished for.

That would be Alonso, and I guess it'll be because Russell Tovey is very busy at the minute. He's just had to be recast in a comedy show for Channel 4 because he's filming Being Human series 3, he's just made another show called Young Lazy and Unemployed for BBC Three, and a show called Him & Her as well as I think I heard he's been cast in something else, I guess he'll be too busy to film in America for Torchwood as well.

I don't think there was any intent to have Alonso join Torchwood. Seems to me he was just there to give Jack a distraction after the events of CoE.

Who I would love to see back is Lois, Lois Habiba. Gwen did say she had a job if she needed one. I liked the actress who played her.

True. There's a strange tendency amongst DW fandom to only judge RTD by his Who and Who-related scripts and to ignore all of his other mainstream productions. It's a little bit like only judging Ernest Hemingway on his Nick Adams stories but ignoring For Whom the Bell Tolls and The Old Man and the Sea.

Not strange at all, really. Who is what fandom is familiar with. Queer as Folk or The Second Coming, less so.

See, to me, that seems strange. You can't evaluate an artist on the basis of only one particular, obviously stylized portion of his/her output. If it's well-known that that artist has produced works done in a completely different style that the works one is most familiar with, it seems obvious to me that those other works need to be brought into consideration. Only judging RTD on Who works makes about as much sense to me as only judging Stephen King on his Dark Tower novels, or only judging the Beatles on the musical Across the Universe.

If I could leave out The Old Man and the Sea when judging Hemingway, I would like him a lot more.

Like a lot of visitors here I'm mainly a DW fan, not an RTD fan. Just like with Tennant, Tom Baker, etc. I'm only marginally interested in their careers before and after they leave the show.
