In my experience? You're SOL without major money changing hands.

I've seen *JUST* the 1701-E from that set go for $60 on e-Bay.

*Looks at his, which he played with as a kid, and wishes it was mint condition so he, too, could make $60 off of 0.50 cents worth of plastic...*

300 is nuts. The micromachines have not held their value. Many antique stores have Star Wars and Star Trek sections and you might find them there. You could even go to one of the other trek boards and post that you are looking for this. I bet you find it for 50 bucks or less.

Its because it is the third set, when these first came out I was like 10 and was collecting all of them, I had every big set except the third one, because it was so rare it was hard to find. The price is because there are so few of them and many ppl (including me) want it, but I'm with you I'm not paying 300 for it.

Thats set II, a little cheaper but still relatively rare (especially now) so it still goes for a lot.

There is a great group, Playtrek, where you can email this request and get great feedback and possibly find someone to buy or trade with.

Wow, I was just pulling mine out of storage a few weeks ago and getting ready to list them. I don't have that box, but I have the one with nine ships, still in the box.

I need to get that stuff listed.

I bought that set at Toys-r-Us many moons ago. Since I'm not worried about future value, I removed them from the box and they sit on display among my Playmate starships.
