    Hi,
my name is Werner and I'm running a Project called Star Trek: Origins. It's a "classic" Point- & Click-Adventure-Game taking place aboard the Enterprise NX-01 and which is in development for quite a time...

Inspiration for that project is and was, that there where no good adventure since a final unity out of the star trek univers ... thats a pity!

We care much about the story and the puzzles so there is not much more to see than some concept-arts and a trailer (http://www.startrekorigins.de/downloads/).

Slowly but surely we're reach the point where all the puzzles are done (story is final - already 6 of 9 chapters are designed), so we're in need of qualified people who might can help us, creating this new episode from ENT.
Especially we're searching for people for the following tasks:

    - Background-Creation & Animation
    - Sprite-/Charakter-Creation
    - 3D-Cutscene-Animators
    - Translators (german-english)

We're planing to use the Wintermute Adventure-Engine and all the scenes we want to do in 3D (of course including some fine-tuning within Photoshop).

Until this was a german-language project till now, there are some "barriers" to join our game... so if you can speak german this would be an advantage. We are working on the translation of all the material which we've created yet, but until this is a non-commercial-project we would more like to put our time in finishing the game, than trying to translate all the "history-stuff" ;)

But: Because the game shall become famous to all star trek fans, a english version is obligatory... so if here is somebody who is interested to help us with the localisation - please get in contact.

Everyone who is willing to help us - we would be happy to hear from you at info@startrekorigins.de.

    Thanks in Advance
    Werner

i've been checking out your website for a while now. looks nice but are you planning for am english version of the site? if you're launching a game, it would be easier for any non germans to find their way around.

At least you understand why I am limiting it to films. Even with just films, it's ... a lot. There are people who are angry It's not broader. Frankly, it's more than I can handle as it is!

When I started I thought there were about 50 or 60 fan films. When I was up to 80 I was surprised... ha ha. At this point, counting them alone is a major undertaking. I figure I'll do it again in September, ...or October. Anyway, it will be AFTER I'm placed the major Parody/Comedy groups. Major production out of Canada on those.

By the way, did you see this: http://startrekreviewed.blogspot.com/2009/06/220.html

The primary organization is by time line. No matter which universe you are in, you are placed according to time line. That isn't easy for the parodies. I just started doing the Parodies because Star Track has reached a point of quality, quantity, and influence that NOT giving them a web page was just WRONG. I was ashamed of it. And there are other parodies that truly deserve it.

I also have to develop the index better. I think if you go to the real Table of Contents as opposed to the one on the side you'll find it easier to navigate. But once you know your way around the website, the links on the side are a blessing. The problem with them is, they are not a substitute for the basic table of Contents, which explains the organization in a way the sidebar can't.

Right now most of the major parodies are just being placed, and I haven't indexed them except from the parody and comedy listing. Once it's more settled they will be added to the index, side bar, formal Table of Contents, and Major Fan Film listings. I'm afraid that may make it more, not less, confusing. But the plan was for this website to serve for two to five years (and it's looking more like two) until I had a better handle on what on earth (what in space?) I was dealing with, and could attempt a more rational organization.

Some people want to be able to pick the mode of organization... click a series of buttons and you get... e.g. parodies by type (live action, cartoons, mechinima, motion comics...) then dramas in the same order, etc... pick another series of buttons and you get live action by time period, then by drama or comedy, etc. I don't have the programming ability to do that just now. But once I've got most of the basic stuff organized in the way I'm trying to do it now, I might work on that.

The bulk of releases seem to happen toward the end of the year. I'm not sure why that is, but I saw it last year, and I've been told that that is usual.

These three websites discuss games particularly:

I guess I should be glad my fiction site got in there before you started limiting it to films only. But you're right, there is a great deal of material out there. Quite frankly, I'm not sure how you manage to keep up.

As for star trek origins. Looks great so far, and I would also like to know if there will be an english version?

I'm not sure that I do keep up. There are definitely parts of the website which are not current. What's more, I am not excluding just LINKING to other fan product websites, and particularly websites with collections. I have a few sets of links to collectors of other type of Trek fan creations. If the creation presents itself to me, I add it. I just don't LOOK for them. In contrast, I am currently hunting for a 1993 Star Trek Fan Film out of the UK that I only heard about today.

By the way, as long as you mentioned it, I gave your link a live link, so it can just be clicked on to get to your website.

@ares93: palning - yes, but till now there was not enough time to do it. It's the same with the story in the intern area... we've begun to translate it into english so non-germans are able to participate... but until we have only a small team, this task is still not complete.

but you're right - only to restrict the site to germans was not the best idea... I'll take a look into the cms... perhabs we can figure out a easy way to embed an english-version, too.

    @Barbreader:
I like the idea of having a index of all fan-work arround star trek (even if it is limited to films). There are so many cool things out there, most of the people don't know. You got my respect for the task to gather all this information.

What would be a good thing is that all the contents can be searched and filtered... perhaps a blog isn't the right medium for that... As I work in a web-agency, I will ask my collegue if he might know a tool which can do that and come back to you.

    @Kaziarl:
The website is one thing, but the game is planned to be multilingual, so at least english and german. A really cool thing would be to get the original cast for voice-acting, but first of all we need to get the game some steps further ;)
But therefor we're in need of some graphic artists, who are willing to invest some time in the realisation of a very cool story.

    Hi folks,
I've thought about your words, and working on a translation of the site ...

There are already some few translated posts (the last ones, and the first), but I try to make them all multilingual (the static pages as well).

    So stay tuned ;)
    Werner

I read the site using Google Translate. It's not as if the internet doesn't offer a universal translator of sorts.

yeah, but german is a "bit" different from english. it can be a pain to read translated texts without the correct grammar. i only use gtranslate when i need to translate documents but then i use a sophisticated spell check program my teacher wrote. otherwise i try to avoid it.

A good translation is better, without a doubt.

yeah of course. obviously you dont speak german. german grammar can be confusing enough as it is and the horrible job gtranslate does makes more harm then good sometimes. it varies of course but overall, to put it simply, its crap...

which is why I try to translate all the posts and pages manually ;)
As for the game, we want the website to be accessible by as many people as possible, too :)

There are certainly many mistakes in my translation, but as you said ... the translation-tools did not get the "sence" of the content...

i can help with the english grammar. but only the already translated texts. my german is limited at best so i'll probably do more harm then good on that department. i'm quarter german btw but i only started studying german three years ago.
