Oh please. He didn't say he didn't know what football was, he asked to be reminded which one it was. Don't you think 'knowing everything about everything' makes picking out specific bits of everything less than straightforward? You know, as evidenced by the Doctor's behaviour, oh, every week? And which part of his UNIT-years exile involved him living as 'a normal bloke' anyway? Out for a pint with the lads? A kickabout with the Brig? Back to the bachelor's pad with a tie hanging around Benton's door?

And anyway, comedy doesn't let facts get in the way.

Plus, he is old, perhaps he is getting senile lol

That is how i took it, the Doctor is just getting old, he has a LOT to remember, and things get jumbled up sometimes, he can't recall everything in the right order cause his life is so out of order all the time haha
Love the episode and Matt Smith made me laugh. He is genuinely brilliant.

As for the comments about the Doctor not knowing how to act like a proper bloke, know what football is, and all that I just chalk it up to both his being eccentric and post-Regeneration recovery. He's also been having other issues with remembering things which makes me think that his erratic behavior/lack of memory is due to the Crack.

Or just a characteristic of this regeneration.

Since, you know, they all have different eccentricities and characteristics. Being oddly absent-minded fits in just fine.

Yeah, I love the concept that if you know nearly everything then you must never be capable of forgetting, or confusing things.

Ever take a History class from a really, really knowledgable but older professor? She or he might still mix up dates or forget a detail or two.

This Doctor might look young, but he's really, really old and also has regenerated into an absent-minded professor type.

Just a quick reminder: someone else needs to do the thread for tomorrow's episode because I won't be here.

That's been the key to me really enjoying Matt Smith's portrayal of the Doctor...he's nailing the aspect of "Very Old Mind in a Young Body" perfectly...

I really enjoyed this episode. The horror elements re the "monster" upstairs were done brilliantly. Also, Corden was pretty good in this. He gets a lot of stick in some quarters but I thought he played his role well.

Also, in "The Runway Bride" where he sonics one to flood the street with money as a distraction.

You'd think by now that ATM manufacturers would notice there seems to be a peculiar event where their machines just vomit cash and do something about it. It'd be amusing sometime to see the Doctor try to use his screwdriver to get money, fail, and then comment, "Oh dear, they fixed that, did they?"

Love to see his face on crime watch.
The suspect is armed with over confidence, a suitcase and a screwdriver ,and was seen leaving the scene in a blue box:lol:

USA's Turn. I liked this episode. In fact this was the first episode I found to be truly fun since the River/Angel two parter. That middle half of the season was a little disappointing. This was finally fun again... though it was definitely light on plot.

So is there a larger story to this faux-Tardis? I certainly hope so. I was hoping it was going to turn out to be a crashed Tardis from the Time War, or the Master's Tardis, or something like that. If it's for the finale don't say anything I don't wanna be spoiled :p

It's interesting, when the Doctor looked in that mirror thing in Vincent and this week with the psychic flashback when we only saw a few of the past incarnations, we always see #1 & #2.

Is this a coincidence or is there something to it?

That reminds me, I heard elsewhere that in the original draft Roberts had Meglos as the villain building the silly upstairs Tardis, but removed it when RTD had the conkerheads in TEOT. Seems he didn't think to replace with anything else, or at least not anything I can remember.

Actually, my memory's a little vague on what it was. A broken ship that was trying to build itself into a Tardis calling people up the stairs or something wasn't it? My abiding memory of it is the Doctor acting like an idiot not understanding humans despite many lifetimes of experience with humans, travelling mostly with humans, and being half-human. It may not have been boring (the ultimate crime I think), but it wasn't any good.

What, Americans don't get to vote in the poll unless we use 'alternate means' to watch the episodes earlier than BBCA wants us to? :(

Liked the episode, although the ending was a bit confusing and at times I had trouble understanding the accents (which is unusual...normally that's not a problem).

Yeah, The Lodger was awesome. It really showcased that, after all of the centuries of being around humans, the species still eludes his decidedly alien grasp and innate understanding. That's a very essential quality to The Doctor I have always loved. Probably more to do with his fascination behind the species. I mean, this is the first time he's lived on Earth just hanging out with civilians, right? The entire Pertwee era they were holed up on a military base. Before and since then it's just been traveling with them, taking them out of their element and forcing them to adapt to the wonder of the universe. It would have been impossible for him to garner any innate understanding of what it means to live as a human, as they were always out in the universe.

Also, Matt Smith really showcased that, like Tom Baker before him, he doesn't require a secondary character present to exude such precise charm and an effortless awkward nature that defines his Doctor.

As for the proto-TARDIS, I've never seen or heard from any credible source that there was any rewrite or such for this episode. Certainly not for such a random, and obscure "bad guy" like 'Meglos'. ( ). Whoever started that idea is just some fanboy wanking off to a really bad era of Who. The Lodger is as it was created to be. Not to mention, it just lends that much more mystery into who is The Silence?

10/10 for this one! :techman:

I enjoyed the episode, and thought Matt Smith was brilliant in it. The football scene was hilarious ("Doc-tor! Doc-tor! Doc-tor!") :D That gizmo he put together in his room reminded me of the thing E.T. made to contact his people, made up of bits and pieces of this and that. The other TARDIS was an interesting twist too. Definitely Amy-light, this one, but I didn't mind. And maybe I missed something in the dialogue or whatever, but I didn't get the bit about the note that Amy hadn't written yet.

It would be the note he sees to let him know where to go to get the room. The guy hadn't even put the ad out yet when The Doctor showed up in response to it...
