World Cup 2010 - South Africa Thread

:guffaw:

Is it right that only 8 countries have ever won the WC?

(Well one way or another 9 now I guess)

England
France
Uruguay x2
Argentina x2
Germany x3 (all as West)
Italy x4
Brazil x5

To be honest taking that into account the fact we've on it once is still pretty impressive.

I have a sneaking suspicion we'll win it again before France or Italy do!

There's just something about Spain that makes me dislike them, so, fingers crossed for a Holland win on Sunday.

^ Or viva Catalan..

8 of current Spain XI are either a Catalan, a Barca player or both.

Even the best player on the bench Fabregas is a Catalan and so is Valdez who should be starting over Casillas on current form!

I don't like the fact that he issues 6 bookings a game, but that also means that he runs a tight ship, which is good for the high caliber match that he is working.

That's good news, I remember when they were saying they didn't think he had a shot cos he and his assistants weren't used in the quarters/semis.

Hup Holland Hup!

Duitser voor Oranje. :)

There is still tonight for you guys...
Though i have a feeling most (older) Dutch fans will be rooting for Uruguay...
Orange fever is at a boiling temperature here in the Netherlands, Nike is doing good business, selling lots of official shirts...

Well, many people here seem to have ignored that there's a game for 3rd place. ;)
I think Uruguay has the better chance to win this because the German team's hearts aren't in it, anymore and defeating Uruguay with their outstanding defense is a tough task, anyway. I do hope Klose gets his World Cup goal record tonight despite of that.

Oh yeah, there's tonight's match as well... Forgotten about that.

Germany should win this, though. I mean, seriously, it's not like they don't deserve at least a third place.

It'd be nice to get 3rd place, but the game is really more of a friendly than a competitive tournament game IMO.

It was a bit different in 2006 because it was at home.

That said, 3rd place games tend to be more enjoyable than the actual final, so at least from that perspective I'm looking forward to it.

Could be a gem, you never know. Suarez, Forlan, Mueller and Klose are all Golden Boot contenders. I'm up for it!

Anything to avoid thinking about the dearth of football and Cardiff City's woes after tomorrow night.

Apparently, Löw plans to let some players play that haven't or have played very little, so far. Müller, Özil and Klose in a better B-team. I hope it's not quite as Spiegel Online claims.

Klose's not going to play, at least not from the start, according to BILD.

What? Why not? :wtf:

Poor Dutch: Apparently, there's a ban on alcohol in public in effect tomorrow because there were riots after the last game...
