Any Eighth Doctor fans here?

Sorry, Bones, but I'm forced to come down with the rest of the squalid pack here and say there's little to be deduced from Eccleston's costuming in "The Unquiet Dead".
It's a very common rumour that he threw a hissy fit and refused to wear the period costume. Of course, being a rumour, it could well be bollocks. If there's a copy of the original script online, that'd be the way to check. As I understand it though, the plan was for the Doctor's costume to be less fixed than we were used to and that he would often wear different things to match the story. We sort of got that with Tennant occasionally wearing a tux or whatever, but it never really materialised. I prefer it that way though, with each Doctor having his distinct look. That's why the long hair is an essential part of the Eighth Doctor's image, same as the Sixth Doctor's fabulous coat.
Wait ... what does 'squalid' mean again?
Sub-Bones :borg:

Besides, I always liked Nine's look; it makes much more sense (and looks more bad-ass) to take on the monsters when one dresses as if ready for an episode of Supernatural...

...and it finally made Dr Who look cool. Leather jackets are cool.

Just not as cool as bow ties...and nowhere near as cool as fezes!

The 8th Doctor's hair only appeared once. So did Tom Baker's hat and cloak in The Talons of Weng-Chiang. So, is Tom's Sherlock-look for that episode essential to his Doctor?

That appeared in one story out of how many featuring Tom Baker? That's like saying that the do-wrap that Patrick Troughton sports during part of The Underwater Menace is essential for his Doctor. I'll bet it got a similar percentage of his Doctor's overall screen time compared to the Talons outfit for Tom Baker.

Well now you have heard it. As I said, the only way of verifying it is finding a copy of the original script. A quick Google shows that it only seems to be available in a hardcover book of the Series 1 scripts, and that costs money.

So very common that I don't think anyone in this thread has heard of it until now (based on people's responses).

Nope I never heard it.

Although apparently Eccleston objected to having to play the Doctor with a Northern accent :shifty:

^ Really? I thought I read an interview where he said that he couldn't identify with the earlier Doctors because of their Received Pronunciation accents?

Is this a satirical impression of a stupid argument?

Yet, that seems to be the criteria for which Bones is making his case that the long hair is some kind of essential aspect to the 8th Doctor. As we've only seen him once, I'd say it's 50/50. We don't know what he looked like an hour after that episode ended. So, to say it is essential to his image or Doctor, you would have to apply such a criteria universally to all Doctors. Right? I mean, unless it's all just a personal, subjective opinion. Then, it's easily dismissed as being disagreed with.

That said, a haircut is the obvious way to go for a McGann reappearance... :techman:
