Behold! Jeyl the Tholian!

Jeyl

Sorry about that.

Since Tholians are my favorite species in Star Trek (aliens that look like freaking aliens), I chose to make my Avatar on TrekBBS a Tholian Commander. Over the months, I kind of grew tired of using Loskene's likeness and thought that I should get Jeyl one of her own. Since I am no artist and can't draw a straight line without a ruler, I decided to ask my friend Yamino if she could assist me in making a new Avatar for me.

The results I think are very good! She has had absolutely no prior knowledge of Tholians, and even said that this was a tricky to draw because of how straight the design of the Tholians were (She's used to more curvier/rounded art design). But the liberties she took with the shape of the head and how it met with the chest area I thought was just perfect.

So here she is! What do you guys think?

Is there a full body version too?

Oh, no. I just requested something that I could use as a new Avatar. To be perfectly honest, I wasn't expecting the upper portion of a Torso.

I'm kind of on the fence on whether or not I want to reflect the Tholian body as seen in Enterprise or go with something different. Not saying that the work that was done on the Tholian for Enterprise wasn't good. In fact, I think it's design was the only thing Enterprise ever did right! But I can assure you that if the project does come, it will not be humanoid looking.

But after saying that, I am tempted to request a full body version, but I try to be a respectable person and Yamino is an insanely busy artist. Upon request, this one art piece a little over a month before she could get to it and it ended up being a rush job. And who can fault her for that? She is currently working on two web comics, travels a TON, is having her profile looked at by Nickelodeon for a potential job, is working to get her web comic published in France and just can't stop following and reporting on Lady Gaga's crusades (which she has done a couple of great art work on as well). She is pretty much my favorite online artist and I'm very grateful that she took the time to do this for me.

I've been making sketches of Tholians lately, various body shapes and carapaces but they aren't turning out too well. In the Destiny Trilogy they mention female Tholians having a scorpion-like tail, not sure if thats canon though.

Fortunately or unfortunately, canon has decreed that Tholians possess both male and female characteristics. @7:27 However, I will still refer to Jeyl as female since so far Tholians speak with a female voice. Plus those chirps they make have a feminine sound to them as well. :techman:

I know the rest of the franchise has declared them hermaphrodites, hence I wasn't sure about Destiny's depiction. Loskene had a female voice artist but I don't seem to remember the prisoner in IaMD having a 'female' chirp to it, sounded fairly gender neutral.

Well, you can go with whatever you want. I'm sticking with Jeyl being referred to as female and that's that.

Her face even looks a bit like a spider. Very nice, that's among the best Tholian drawings I've seen in the net! :bolian:
