Cellular Peptide Cake

The "Troi-Cake" was perhaps the funniest part of one of the most "bizarre" eps in Star Trek, Worf's "Delicious" statement adds the "icing to the cake" (pun intended :P )

The thing that always gets to me though is Data's "High Pitched Static" its extremely freaky...

Hehe I have a friend who hates star trek and I made him watch this scene
and we always say it to each other "with mint frosting"

The cake on a giant table to hide Troi's body was a shameless cheapskaet FX. They made data bodyless in Disaster so they could have done something better in Phantasms.

It's funny that you bring that up. I was just watching video of a Conn that Sirtis did a few years ago and she was talking about Season 7. She said that most of the budget was going towards DS9 and the movie. She said she remembered seeing Nana (Kira) in a couple hundred dollar outfit the same week they had Troi wearing something from off of the rack from K-Mart or Sears.

I don't get it. Her body was supposed to be a cake, and it was. What do you think would have been less "cheapskaet" (sic)?

Worf's pleasure in easting Troi would lead to a rift in his relationship with Riker, according to AGT.

What? Likle you weren't thinking it.

If they had used blue screen to hide her body instead of getting a gigantic table. It was just so obvious and cheap.

It seemed very original at the time... until you saw MTV. The video by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers "Don't Come Around Here No More" had an Alice in Wonderland theme and towards the end, Alice is a cake except for her head, and the band starts eating her. The song is from 1985 so the video is likely from 1985 or thereabout.

(around 3:58 in she's a cake)

That cake FREAKS ME OUT! Data, WTF?

However, if you want to argue that Data indeed has emotions, this episode is good evidence. How can your subconcious be active if you have no fears, wants, desires, etc? If Data didn't have emotions, then surely he wouldn't need a subconscious to deal with frightening ideas or submerged desires.

There's an episode of Futurama where the robot Bender says something like "I can't feel emotions, and that makes me very sad," and when I see that it reminds me of Data.

I've always preferred "old school" special effects (puppets, makeup, etc) to computer effects. Even good computer effects look fake. By using actual, real objects to create an "item" (an alien, monster, Troi cake, etc), the item in question exists in the same plane of reality, casts the appropriate shadows, and is less distracting than CGI.

Practical effects (effects created and filmed live in front of the camera) can be quite convincing if done well, but they have their limitations.

I haven't seen the episode in question, but if the Troi-cake was supposed to be part of a dream or hallucination, then it doesn't have to look absolutely “real,” does it?

I personally would have taken a slice from a more interesting area than a smelly armpit. But then again, Worf IS Klingon.

I've been wanting a slice out of that cake ever since I saw it. I've never seen or had a mint flavoured sponge cake before. Is there such a thing?
