Summer 2010 Anime

Any idea what the projects Bee Train will tackle in the nearby future (Phantom wasn't bad but Yakumo seems like a major letdown)?

Wiki says "Psychic Detective Yakumo".

Speaking of which, I need to check out Blade of the Immortal. It was the first manga I read way back when and I liked it (despite the violence), but I wonder how it would look as an anime.

It's pretty good, but it's only 12 episodes and doesn't cover all of the story.

Yeah, I figure they wouldn't be able to cover the entire series, but I wonder if it did well enough for a sequel though.

I certainly hope so, since I want to see how it all turns out without having to read 20+ volumes of manga.

Not going to lie, Phantom was the only bee train production I liked

Phantom was good but the last episode totally assassinated that series for me. Pun intended. I hated the way it ended big time. If the last few minutes of that show did not exist I would have enjoyed it so much more. As for Bee Train they are resposible for some real stinkers like Avenger and El Cazador de la Bruja for instance, but I loved Noir and Madlax which were also theirs.

If were talking about Black Lagoon, there is the chance that the OVAs will be able to finish off the story arc as the manga hasn't completed the arc yet.

I dont know what it is, but something about their shows just doesn't click with me. I mean, the girls with guns formula should be a sure fire win, but I never really liked the characters. Plus I can't forgive them for destroying Tsubasa :(

The pacing maybe? If there's one thing that's a constant about Bee Train works it's that they're always so slow.

Also I was talking about Blade of the immortal there, not Black Lagoon, though it could also apply to a vast amount of other series too.

caught my first show of the new season today, and it was pretty good.

Ookami-san to Shichinn no Nakama-tachi

Entertaining, and not a childhood friend in sight :D

In the absence of anything new I started watching Kobato. It's pretty cute and funny and kinda gives off a Kanon/Clannad vibe. Also the main character's name is fun to say.

And I watched Amagami SS, out of curiosity for the whole omnibus thing. I suppose the easiest way to get over the harem is to just tell the same story 6 different times.

Yeah, just checked it out. I think it contains just about every known school life cliche out there

Yeah, it was kind of obvious that Bandai would do this given all of Bang Zoom's "hints" and whatnot.

I figure the only project Bandai might make money on is the Haruhi movie. I loved Endless Eight but the backlash against that was tremendous, so I almost imagine that'll be a bomb.

K-On might do well, but it seems way too late now that we're at the half way point of S2. It's such a different show now that I don't even know if anyone would be interested in S1. They claim to not be dubbing it but the Bang Zoom guy pretty much said that they were working on it so that's just another added cost (including rewriting all the songs into English).

I mean, I don't want Bandai to die so I hope it works out for them anyhow. Certainly they're trying to go all out anyway.

So, the much hyped High School of the Dead premiered yesterday evening, but good luck getting The Anime Network's player to work at the moment:

There doesn't seem to be anything remarkable about it other than it's so much like any other zombie film/piece of fiction... with the exception of the myriad of upskirt shots I suppose. Still, at least it isn't bad.

Yeah, I can't get it to work either. :klingon:

Edit: Go to where it lists the episodes underneath the video and click episode 1, then it should play.

Well, so far I've checked out out the 4 I wanted to see:

Highschool of the Dead- This show will rock. Looks great, and is epic. The first episode was pretty good. Unfortunately, I'll probabally be waiting for the DVD on this since it's licensed.

Occult Academy- I can't really tell if this an occult show or if they're just making fun of themselves and the genre. Still pretty fun so far and I like the main character. This is available on Crunchyroll.

Sekirei: Pure Engagement- More of the same, which is good. It looks like things are about to heat up too.

Shiki- Interesting thus far, although I hope Megumi is not a recurring character since she's so damn annoying.
Hopefully being undead with shut her the f*** up.
