Haired Sisko or Bald Sisko?

Haired Sisko or Bald Sisko? Which is your favorite?

I voted bald. Here's why.
Sisko had a more "I'm NOT someone you want as an enemy" look and feel to him with the bald head. Plus, with the bald head he didn't look like he was within 2 or 3 years of Dr. Bashir's age or Jadzia's age-(not including Dax's age). He had a wiser, more mature look with the shiny, bald head. And where Jake is concerned, with the bald head Sisko looked more like a father instead of an older brother, older half-brother or older stepbrother. Another thing about the bald head, Sisko looked more like a captain and less like a wet behind the ears, fresh out of Star Fleet Academy ensign. If I could edit the DVDs, I would go through seasons 1-3 sticking Sisko's seasons 4-7 head on his seasons 1-3 body. I don't like Sisko with hair. With hair, Sisko looks like Voyager's Tuvok with human ears. Everytime I watch an episode where Sisko has hair, I start thinking of Tuvok and Voyager.

I voted bald Sisko.

There are very few men who look better bald than with hair, but Avery Brooks is one of them. In fairness, that is mostly because of the Badass Hawk Vibe that Brooks is capable of generating which the shaved head look, of course, reinforces.

But it is also because the shaved head was only a portion of the larger transformation that Brooks finally was allowed to undertake - a transformation which gave Sisko a much edgier look and vibe which I really loved.

One of the best decisions they ever made behind the scenes on this show, IMO, was to allow Brooks jto take Sisko where he wanted to take him.

Avery Brooks never liked Sisko's old look, which was forced on him by executive meddling. Growing the goatee and shaving his head made Brooks more comfortable in the role, which shows in his performance.

I voted "both," as it's the closest to when he had hair and a circle beard briefly. That's my favorite look.

Being more comfortable in the role made him a twunt? And I think his acting was worse. When I think of a crap-acting Brooks, I think of bald Sisko.

Of course, some of us just don't see this 'crap acting' that you seem so positive is obvious to all. :p

I liked Brooks acting. And I ESPECIALLY like it later on, when Brooks was allowed to play the character in such a way as he actually felt comfortable in Sisko's skin.

Brooks is much better at playing a badass character that is alot closer to Hawk than he is to white-as-rice-with-a-stick-up-his-butt Picard.

This I don't see at all, Avery Brook's acting easily improved from the point where he grew the beard. Most of the time when he had a background role in the early seasons he seemed to be bored, which is largely because he actually was bored by the role and wanted to leave. Once Ira Behr took over and allowed Avery a bit more freedom with the character, that changed and Avery seemed far more interested in the role, sometimes to the point of over-acting. From that point on Sisko is a much more enjoyable character because you're watching a guy that's into his work rather than a guy that's just there to fulfil his contract.

Yep..agreed. I think he got better as it went along. Early on I was uneasy, I think most were. But from season three, and really season four, onward he did a great job..

Wow, it's 88% bald Sisko at this point and I concur. The look just suits his personality better. A mohawk might have been interesting but probably too much.

I came across some movie today with Timothy Dalton and Fran Drescher (?). And I never noticed before how Dalton, especially in his older age, resembles Patrick.

But yes, i agree. Sisko seemed to get spunk when he shaved and dawned the goatee...

I read that the show asked Avery Brooks to grow the hair and shave the goatee thing, so as not to confuse viewers between himself and his old character, Hawk from "Spencer for Hire."

After a few seasons, he shaved the head and grew the whiskers again, because this is what Brooks wanted (that's his look).

Black dudes look good bald. If I was black I would do it more than likely.

Not all of them. And a lot of white dudes look great bald. It's about the shape of the skull/face.

Some examples of heads that suit the shaved look:

I voted both, his hairdo is inconsequential to me. I like the character's evolution throughout the serie.

Bald-Sisko is more attractive and commands more respect; he looks more modern and suave. Haired-Sisko looks dated. When I rewatch early episodes of DS9, for a split second I think "Who IS this douche," and then I realize "Oh, it's Haired-Sisko."

Speaking of douches, I disliked Bashir at first (so annoying, like a grown up Wesley) but later on he became one of my all time favorite characters.

I think I just got used to haired-Sisko first, and I think he looks mildly creepy without his hair. If you think about it, though, he never really got rid of his hair...it just migrated to his face, instead. :vulcan:
