Shitty overpaid Japanese pitcher who used to be the Dragon Slayer... but is now just Kamakazi pretty much sealed his fate by giving up a 4-0 lead in about 30 seconds.

I know that a W-L record isn't the only indicator of how good a guy is at pitching. It's not even that he's necessarily a horrible pitcher, as he has thrown a good game here and there, but he's just got bad mojo (or maybe tojo?) right now. I firmly believe that he could start the rest of the season and not get one single win. I sure don't want him in the rotation should the Braves make the playoffs!

From what I'm hearing he may soon become a high priced reliever. He could go to the bullpen when Jurrjens comes back. *fingers crossed*
 
Nice to see the Giants pull out a win in Toronto. They should have taken the game on Friday though, with Zito's complete game and all. This week they're the only National League game against the Astros. Need to play well and maybe even sweep to bring that momentum home against the Red Sox in what is a pretty big weekend series. Looking forward to it.
 
Jays may have lost today, but a great story emerged from it:

John McDonald's bottom lip quivered as he recalled the conversation with his late father, Jack.

They were talking about what kind of player the light-hitting utility infielder was, and Jack had a request for his son.

"Hit your next home run for me," he said, shortly before he died from liver cancer on Tuesday.

John McDonald obliged. In his first at-bat since Friday's funeral. On Father's Day.

His first thought as he was rounding the bases?

"Probably the fact that I couldn't call my dad after the game," McDonald said, the corners of his eyes dampening.

"I think it was for both of us. ... The fact I got that out of the way quick, was nice. I told him they're not that easy to hit."

On most days, his home run in the ninth inning of a 9-6 Toronto Blue Jays loss to the San Francisco Giants would be a footnote. On Sunday, it was one of those rare times in sports when a single moment supersedes victories and losses.

"I think it brought tears to just about everyone's eyes," said manager Cito Gaston.

McDonald rejoined his teammates Saturday and was only seeing action Sunday as a late-inning replacement for second baseman Aaron Hill in a blowout game. But he welcomed the opportunity to play, jumped all over an 0-1 curveball from Jeremy Affeldt and sent his first of the season just over the left-field wall.

^I like those kind of stories. First it was Braden's Perfect game and the loss of his Mother on Mothers Day, then this on Father's day. MLB produced two perfect feel good stories on the respective days and that's a very good thing.

I had the same reaction to the Yankees last night. A.J. Burnett really needs to sharpen the hell up already. This is not what Yankee pitching is supposed to be. :mad:
 
Why? That's what Burnett has basically ALWAYS been like. Great some games, maddeningly inconsistent in others, like he lost interest in the game. Just because you throw money at players, doesn't mean they'll all be aces...

Yup. That's just Burnett being Burnett. There's a reason why he's just 15 wins over .500 in his career.

If the Yankees expected to get "Yankee pitching" out of A.J. Burnett, then they were seriously mistaken.
 
Hughes and Pettitte are, I think, their best. Joba had a great time last night - it was almost like 2007 again. (And without the midges. :lol: )

R.A. Dickey did great for the Mets tonight. Shut Detroit down! :techman:

Which is scary considering how AJ and CC have been lately. Hughes and Pettite more than make up for it though. Javie has been coming around lately as well.

I'm especialy stunned by Hughes performance. Pretty outstanding considering how young he is
