When are we ever going to see a Supergirl flick?

A new Supergirl movie seems like kind of a no-brainer to me-- frankly even more than a new Superman. First, she's got all the powers and abilities of Supes, so you're not going to have a problem making the movie be action-packed and spectacular enough (which seems to be the main drawback with female superhero movies).

And second, she's a hot girl in a freakin mini skirt flying around kicking ass and shooting lasers out of her eyes!! That should appeal equally to both girls and guys, I would think.

Not to mention the fact it actually feels like kind of a fresh idea by this point (and something different from seeing yet ANOTHER buff dude in a leather superhero outfit). If it was done well, I think people would be all for that.

 

I thought she was great in the role. Yeah the character was written a bit too naive and love-obsessed, but that certainly wasn't Slater's fault.

I'll grant you that (although, I found her scenes with the love-interest are very awkward and clunky, but that is probably just lousy direction and writing than the actual performances).

However, because she was able to "hold her own" in a movie with a lot of talent doesn't necessarily mean she was an inspired casting choice.

Then again, I guess it depends on what it is meant by "inspired casting". When I think of "inspired casting", I think of an actor that you wouldn't necessarily connect with the role, and not only meets, but exceeds your expectations in what they bring to the character. For example, Heath Ledger as Joker in The Dark Knight I feel was inspired casting as was Tom Cruise as Les Grossman in Tropic Thunder.

Good call. I think that would be our best shot at getting either a Supergirl movie or a Legion movie. It would also give D.C. a chance to put out a team movie without having to risk their major properties.

It took me a couple episodes to recognize her on Smallville, but then I instantly recognized her on City Slickers and licked the TV screen for a little bit.

 

Yes, she's had a steady career (built mainly on TV show guest spots, TV movies, and poorly received films), but she is not nearly the Hollywood success you are implying her out to be. Perhaps I should have used the term "relative obscurity".

Well, it's hard for an actress to stay popular for too long in this youth-obsessed society, but my recollection is that for a few years in the '80s, Helen Slater was a fairly prominent name in the movie industry, and it started with Supergirl. I'm not saying she was a huge success, but I think the assumption that she was a flash-in-the-pan or made little impression is historically inaccurate. Supergirl may have been a flop, but Helen Slater's casting and performance were far better received; she was even nominated for a Saturn Award for the role. And I'd hardly say that Ruthless People and City Slickers were poorly received films.

 

Well, she isn't a "son" of Krypton....

And even then, the whole existence of Kandor kind of eliminates that bit. I mean, a whole CITY of potential Supermans. Er, Supermen. Well, you know what I mean.

 

I think Inspired would mean finding a cheap actress who can do the whole part so well that they will pay her more for future roles. List climbing.

I'm looking at a Blond Wednesday adams, Eliza Bump...Mind fart: Christina Ricci... On saving Gace now, and even though she's pushing 30, the girl is gaunt enough to play 14, but the boat has totaly sailed on that one in all honesty.

How aboutshowing me some photo ship of maggie from the Nannie as Supergirl? She was absolutely fabulous on Justice league as Supergirl and suring her last sdays on the nanny finally looked the part of a supergirl.

I don't have a problem with the idea of Clark growing up thinking he's the last of his kind and then gradually discovering other survivors. It gives the overall saga an optimistic arc, loss followed by hope, and that seems very fitting for Superman.

Now, how she happens to be the same person as Supergirl but have twice her boobage, I just couldn't tell you.

 

It could be an alternate universe thing, or Supergirl (age roughly 16) is going to get another growth spurt at some point.

 

Scarlett Johansson should play Power Girl.

 

I think it's Cat Grant. I've read that book, can't quite delineate. Cat has had a hard on to destroy Supergirl in recent issues of Supergirl since she downed Airforce One during the Amazon invasion and every other bugger forgave her.

Though she's been living with Lana recently but I believe her hair is longer right now.
