Why Do People Hate That Fat Guy So Much?

Tulin

Vice Admiral
Admiral
I just looked at the review thread on AICN and then came here and it seems like the fat guy in this week's episode is really hated.

Who is he and what has he done to the population of England that makes him so hated?

And apparently he's turned up in a lot of other things as well, which aren't seen in other parts of the world. Was he in Gavin & Stacy? That was a show that didn't do much for me.

Basically James Corden let success go to his head.

He is a good actor, was very good in the original production of The History Boys, but after the series he co wrote & appeared in (Gavin & Stacy) became a huge hit over here he was given the opportunity to do anything he wanted, and did without any thought to the quality that resulted.

So we got a rubbish film about lesbian vampires, the worst sketch show ever seen on TV and, probably his biggest mistake, he seemed to present or appear on every quiz show/award ceremony that he could. If you want to be an actor, appearing as yourself all the time probably isn't the best idea - it's why so many people thought he was going to play himself in this episode rather than play the character.

I had no idea who he was until now and after reading the article it seems like Patrick was poking fun at him (no pun intended) and David responded a little too seriously and retorted back and then it was on! Taking pot shots at a decorated Starfleet Captain!

It doesn't suprise me that James Corden is so hated. In this country we like to laud people only to knock them down again when they "get above their station". I'm still waiting for it to happen to Barrowman.

I think the reason he's so hated is that he's percieved as having let success go to his head. I think the done thing in the UK is if you have to be successful don't look like you're enjoying it too much.

He's an American, we expect him to turn up to the opening of a fridge and/or any other desperate attempt to stay on the telly. Moreover, he's so cheesy to start with that he's never really raise above the status of camp joke to start with...

1. Barrowman is actually a Scot who has dual U.S./U.K. citizenship.

2. What does being an American have to do with making frequent appearances on low-quality TV shows?

Barrowman? He's British.

Would anyone who's not a spotter and simply watching the TV say that's he British? So I'll admit my lack of knowledge on that one.

He comes across as top-draw american cheese.

Which is funny, since no one in America knows who he is.

I think the main reason for the hate for James Corden is just the fact he got so popular and that appeared everywhere and before long people got sick of seeing him. I don't hate him I just can't figure out if I like him. He's sometimes very good, other times he just appears to be playing himself and being obnoxious.

Top draw makes "good example of" rather than "a-list" or "very popular".

He could only get more cheesy by being on QVC, oh wait...

^I'd think quite a few people know who he is between Torchwood breaking BBC America's ratings record and his role Desperate Housewives recently.

For me, Corden hasn't done anything good enough and dosn't have the right personality to be as overexposed or applauded as much as he thinks he should. Gavin and Stacey was a hit, not my thing, but everything after that decreased in quality significantly. And yet the feeling of awesome remains.

I don't think it's a British thing, really. It's just plain irritating.
