I picked up a potato ricer on sale.

It works great! Nice fluffy mashed potatoes with practically no effort.

What other uses are there for a ricer? Besides other fluffy veggies?

I use mine to make spaetzle (little German dumplings). You make your dough, and put it through the ricer right into boiling water. Yum.

Never heard of a patato ricer

But if it makes your potatos turn out fluffy it might be ideal to see if we have this in Aus.

i always use the old patato masher smiles

We do, although I think you might need to go to a specialty cooking / chefs store to pick one up.

A potato ricer is shaped like a big arse garlic crusher. It makes mashed potato and gnocci so much easier to make.

Next time you're making mashed potatoes stick in a little butter and truffle oil for a truly decadent experience.

I got it at Homegoods. About $8. It's kinda big, taking up some storage room, but it's so quick and gets the potatoes fluffier than my mashing them. I have very small hands (like a 12 yo), but this is easy to use. It's an OXO brand. Their stuff is usually good.

Basically, it's like an overgrown garlic press. Put the chunks of boiled potato in the hopper, bring down the lever and squeeze, and ricey-looking potato comes out. This model only has the potato come out the bottom, not the sides. A good thing I think.

NOT the OXO brand, some German brand. Pretty good for fluffy potatoes.

Funny, I looked t this thread yesterday, and this morning on "Charmed" Piuper was doing inventory at the restaurant and she said, "What are we doing with 19 potato ricers?"

Is that too many? ;)

Sounds like a gadget to try, will be on the look out.
