Stewart vs Corden

But given that Corden has based his career on jokes about the size of his belly, he might have accepted the ribbing with a little more grace or humour.

Thats what I thought as well.

Why did Patrick Stewart get involved in that situation anyway? Corden never said anything clever or witty - he's just being very obnoxious. When you have to deal with these people you just shrug your shoulders and move on. Must have been the Romulan Ale right enough.

I'm shocked.

I thought Picard was the master of diplomacy. ;) And if he had the discipline not to hump Kamala, then why not the discipline not to take the piss out of this guy? :techman:

I think it's a bit of a non-story, to be honest. All I saw was a pair ill-matched actors engaging in a bit of ill-advised fuckwittery...

Well, Stewart probably shouldn't have mentioned it onstage, perhaps said something to Corben as an aside off-of-mic. But by the same token... and I've never even heard of this Corben dude until today... fuck that guy. NOBODY disrespect P-Stew! He should have fucking nutted that fat bastard. I hope he gets fucking killed by a deranged Trekker.

Corden is a bit of a prick, but Stewart's "joke" was so flat It pretty much came across as a really bad insult. Honestly, he seemed like he was in character as the simpleton head of the CIA "Bullock" he plays in American Dad.

^ I think both would have emerged with a lot more dignity, had Corden responded to the initial jibe with more humour and Stewart not gone on to make the joke about the belly. It was clear by this stage that both were making tits of themselves and I say so as a huge fan of Stewart, both as an actor and a person and as someone who likes Gavin & Stacy & generally finds Corden reasonably funny.

But I do note from the youtube clip that when they moved off-mic, Stewart appeared to be trying to patch it up with Corden and the latter didn't seem to be accepting his attempts at it, just shaking his head abruptly. Perhaps he was just saying 'forget about it' but it came across as dismissive and arrogant.

If nothing else, he should have had a bit more respect for a man who's old enough to be his father or even grandfather and who clearly had had a bit too much to drink. That's before you even look at Stewart's acting credentials etc.

I guess I should've expected all the siding with Patrick Stewart on this from a Trek website, but I got to tell you (as a big Picard fan too!) I think it was Stewart that was the idiot here; James Corden handled himself quite well.

Picard had had too much to drink, and looked like he started it, but Corden could quite easily have brushed that off by playing into the joke. Instead he got uppity and made a twat of both of them.

Fatty seems to think that he's untouchable ever since G&S. FFS man, one hit! How did that sketch show go?

I don't get the love for G&S. Watched the first ep, a bit meh, started watching the 2nd ep, decided life was too short. Thought all the actors were ordinary by any measure.

Anyone like to explain?

I can't believe peple are defending Stewart, I know were Trek Fans here but he was a total asshole to Corden no matter your opinion of James. I've never seen Stewart act like that and hope its a one off seriously made a sir a few days ago and now an asshole.

Patrick Stewart went wrong the minute he remarked Corden's hosting skills in front of the audience. It would have been professional to talk to him privately backstage.

I think PS was trying to make a joke, but let's face it, he's only good with jokes when somebody else has written them for him. :(

Croden was out of line, too.

I'm really looking forward to the follow-up interviews on this incident. ;)

I can't believe there are people defending Corden!! Sure the joke fell a bit flat but it looked to me like it was scripted and when it all went a bit pear shape Corden took advantage and completely stitched up Sir Patrick to get some free publicity. Anyone from the UK knows full well that the popular media is dominated by Cheryl Cole at the moment and with her winning the woman of the year award at this event Cordens gig presenting the show wouldn't have merited a footnote in the papers without him manufacturing an incident.

As for Zoe, I think her comments are being taken out of context to support the media portrayal of Sir Patrick as the villain. If you watch the footage she was doing her best to be the diplomat and seemed to be complimenting Stewart by stating anything he does on stage is worth seeing.
