"Polaris"

No, I just like red. The ship interiors in Forbidden Planet use dark red accents, for example, and I sort of went back and forth between that and using international orange - also popular in films like When Worlds Collide (the red-orange used on the original Star Trek series kind of straddles the line, a little closer to international orange than to maroon). The red works better, but what probably decided it was that headliner padding material was available in red but not orange. An awful lot of our set detailing is based on the "what's on sale at Home Depot" principle.

This effects test, BTW, is just something I put together as an experiment - note the image-mapping problems on the center displays - and doesn't represent the professional work of Michael and Neo-FX, who will certainly do more interesting things.

BTW: Nick has done some cameos on Hidden Frontier/Odyssey/Helena. Any chance some Polaris actors will have cameos on Intrepid as well?
Hard to say. I'd love to get any of them on, but there's the usual logistical problems.

That said, we *almost* had Paul for a guest spot in the script we're currently shooting, but we couldn't quite make it happen.

In that case, I think we should all be grateful that fuschia wasn't on sale that week!

In all seriousness, the set looks great and has a very solid "feel." I'd say you're on the right track!

Too bad. Subspace communication over a desktop computer usually offers itself for something like that since the party on the other side of the pond only needs a green background, a uniform, a camera and a few lines.

Thanks. It was mostly pretty solid construction - caused us problems with breakdown and storage, but it was good for climbing up on walls to hang lights, etc. And it did not shake too much.

That was actually the plan, but it just didn't work out. Pity too, Paul's awesome. :)

Paul's the best. So's Gina. So's that Scottish bloke. And Garrett, and Susan, and...

For real, the more I see the more amazed and grateful I am for the actors who've worked on this show. The whole thing really hangs on their performances more than any other element. And I think you can see what they each bring to it even in the stills.

Vektor has a cool update to his work on the Polaris starship itself here:

Looks great! Will that be the final look once the color correction is finished?

Though there's something weird going on in the last image. Nick's hair looks as if someone reinforced it with some leftover carpet pieces.

We have a great colorist, Gina Lockhart, and I'm sure she'll contribute a great deal to determining what the final look will be.

I think Nick looks damn heroic. :)

United Worlds Entertainment has entered preproduction on the short science fiction film "Polaris" starring Paul R. Sieber ("Star Trek: Phase II," "Law And Disorder").

Set centuries in the future, Polaris tells the story of an interstellar starship lost in uncharted space. To get home again Captain Sam Fredericks, Valerie Young and the crew of the star cruiser Polaris must defeat an implacable enemy and solve the mystery of an impossible planet. Their discoveries will change humanity forever - if they survive.

United Worlds plans to begin production in Fall 2009. Principal photography will take place at studios in Maryland and on location in the Delaware/Maryland/Virginia region.
