Any Fantastic Four fans?

For the first time, I'm beginning to acquire an appreciation for Reed Richards and the Fantastic Four. Reed (Mr. Fantastic) is an exceptional superhero.

I have to admit I haven't seen the two movies (2005 & 2007). Are they worth a look? Does Ioan Gruffudd do a decent job portraying Reed Richards?
If you like the FF, avoid the movies.

I love the FF. I love how silly and 60s the old stuff is. I love how Heroes Reborn allowed for newer readers to jump on board with a modern take and Jim Lee's artwork appealing. I love Mark Waid's run, specifically his earlier stuff and I love the logo change that came with it giving it that cool groovy retro sci-fi look.

I've always been curious with what Sean Astin would have done with the franchise had he been granted directorial chores instead of Tim Story.
I remember when Peyton Reed was on board and all the talk was of a stylish almost period piece Fantastic Four with a groovy retro aesthetic.

That would've been brilliant to see.
I'm also curious about this "darker" Fantastic Four reboot that Marvel has planned. I think Marvel Studios should go after the rights from Fox personally.
: ( @ a 'dark' Fantastic Four movie.

I haven't read the FF for a long time, but I used to think of them this way back in the day, when you needed to beat a tough villain or group of villains up you called the Avengers, when you needed to save the world or beat the unbeatable you called the FF.

I am a long time fan of the FF. Started with issue 164, which was also the first George Perez issue and it also introduced Frankie Raye as well as bringing the Marvel Boy of the 50's into the MU. Over the years, I have read every issue before and since. Never did see the Corman film though. I distinctly remember where and when and why I bought that first copy. And it changed my life. Before that, I just liked superheroes and comics as more of a casual fan. After my first issue of Fantastic Four, I was a comic collector.

I really enjoyed the Mark Waid / Mike Weirngo run around 2000. Then... the JMS run was just alright. The Mark Millar / Bryan Hitch run started out amazing but the final arc was a huge fizzling anti-climactic disappointment (apparently someone died in one of their families leading to abrupt ending). I've read the first run of the Hickman run and it was very good, look forward to more.

I agree that it shouldn't be dark just like the Spider-Man reboot shouldn't be gritty and angst ridden...Fantastic Four is a science fiction superhero story about a family and while families do have their dysfunction and disagreements from time to time that shouldn't be the focus of the emotional core of the film if that is what was meant by the "dark" line. What I meant to say is that I'm curious about the reboot in general not about the "dark" part. I'm getting tired of studios using this because that was the basis of Batman and Batman was a success so they feel the need to emulate it somehow. Spider-Man, and the Fantastic Four are not "dark" characters. They have villains that posses those qualities yes but the heroes themselves are heroes in a traditional sense. You can still create drama and tension without having to resort to darkness. End of rant.

Well they could always have a much "darker" Doom or even the other 'hokier' villans get sort of organized and cause some real problems... maybe even sorta give a hint of Civil War-ish-ness to it, by having the FF be sort of outcasts for a time

^^ Feh. I'm sick of that crap.

How old is Franklin these days?
42. Like it says in scotty's link, he was born in 1968. ;)

Those were great days. After Stan Lee, Roy Thomas was the best FF writer-- he really had the book and the characters down pat.

I was hoping you meant the comic. I'm a fan of that. The movies, not so much.

Hey, who says they aren't? With Reed's and Ben's respective body structures, aging wouldn't show up the same way as the rest of us. :p

True. Of course, Johnny would be 65 and Sue about 75, and Peter Parker about 65 and Aunt May about 115.... :D

Only reason why I dig the Fantastic Four is Jessica Alba. Other than that, I don't even bother....

But I would like to see a fight against Mr. Fantastic and Dhalsim from Street Fighter.
