"21 Jump Street" really is happening. Jonah Hill co-wrote the script, is executive producing and will presumably star in some capacity.
an update from Hill recently at the press junket for "Get Him to the Greek"

Josh also asked Hill to speak to how his take on the classic TV series fits into the original's universe. "We're basically just fascinated and interested in the idea of going back to high school and getting to relive those high school years," he said. "There's kind of a 'Back to the Future' element in that. Being young-looking cops was a great device to get to go back to high school again."
"I think we're starting early next year... January or February is when we're planning on starting shooting," he said. And then the talk turned, as it always does, to the possibility of a Johnny Depp cameo. Depp, of course, starred in the original series, one of his major breakout roles. And Josh has been trying to engineer a cameo appearance for some time.

Jonah Hill Promises 'New Characters' For '21 Jump Street, Plans To Shoot 'Early Next Year'

"It's a group of people that go back to high school to deal with a drug problem. To deal with crime in high school.

Jonah Hill Describes '21 Jump Street' Remake As 'R-Rated' And 'Insane'
"We're not even spoofing the movie. It's not strictly comedic, either. We're doing a full-on action movie, blowing s*** up."
"[Sony execs said] they were gonna let me make my kind of movie -- an R-rated, insane, "Bad-Boys-meets-John Hughes-type movie -- and I told them the second they don't, I’m not gonna be involved anymore," he revealed. The comments echo Hill's earlier statement to MTV, in which the actor revealed that Sony allegedly told Hill he'd have full control over the feature.
We'll see....

Same here. Can't stand Jonah Hill at all.

I remember watchin' the series as a kid, and it was a fun show then. Re-watchin' the series now on DVD, and its kind of preachy from time to time, but still entertainin'.

I highly doubt Depp would do a cameo - he's much too famous now. He probably wants to forget he ever did this show.

I'd agree with that, considerin' the stories about how he didn't want to be on the show while it was still in production.

John Cho in for Dustin Nguyen. But who will play Richard Grieco?

How about an Asian female....

as for Greico...what was the last thing he was in? i think he;ll be happy to take Depp's cameo....maybe even the senior officer-in-charge role?

Peter Deluise needs to direct!

Don't think needs to be rated R though....

Depp has commented that he would like do a cameo. It will probably depend on whether he has the time or not.

In an interview for this week’s EW cover story, Johnny Depp–who became a reluctant 1980s teen idol thanks to his role as undercover officer Tom Hanson on the cop show 21 Jump Street–said he is interested in the idea of possibly making a cameo appearance in the planned Jump Street movie.

“I’m hoping they’ll let me do a cameo,” Depp said with a laugh. “Someone will say, ‘Whatever happened to Tom Hanson?’ and they’ll find me somewhere hoarding jars of peanut butter and shaking in my underpants.” The Jump Street movie is in development at Sony Pictures, with Jonah Hill on board to write, executive produce, and potentially star.
