I loved this episode. In the scene at the museum near the end, though, I seem to have had a bout of spontaneous eye irritation.

The only thing that would have been better than seeing Amy's name on the sunflowers would have been to see one additional, NEW painting by van Gogh -- of an unidentified red-headed woman.

    Sigh.

    This was a spectacular episode.

Excuse me. I have to go get a tissue. I'm watching it again, and that eye problem is re-occurring.

Speaking of translating, can someone tell me what Amy said when they're about to leave and the Doctor says "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" and she says "I was thinking I may need some ???? or something before we leave." What was it she said she needed?

That surprised me too, considering how Vincent seemed to paint damn near everything.

But you just know that 'Who was Amy?' is now one of the great mysteries of the art world. Hotly debated, with many books written on the subject. :)

"I'm thinking I may need some food or something..."

And speaking of missed lines. I missed part of what Vincent said when Amy asked him about liking sunflowers.

"Always somewhere between living and dying...something...something...to the sun. A little disgusting."

Yeah I was wondering that too. Between that and the constant complains about "getting old," it seems like they really want to play with the idea of the Doctor slowing down and getting close to the end of his lifespan.

I can't get iPlayer to work at the moment but I think it's something along the lines of "dying, rotting and decaying as it tries to reach the sun"

You've seen the original series right and how silly did that look :p, personally the charm of Who is that it plays out not as a serious SCI FI but a silly one.

I also wanted to add that I love the bit where the Doctor was waiting for the alien to show up while Van Gogh was painting the church and he was extremely bored and fidgety and said, "so this is how time passes" or something. The Doctor is always on the move and there is never any downtime in his life.

    Ah, now, see...

I think it was after he'd met the Doctor.

Because the second time around Dr Black said it was the last painting he did, whereas the first time around he said it was one of the last.

I think this is going to pan out differently than we think, like the Doctor/jacket thing in the Angels ep.

    Well, I hope it does.

And as Terry Pratchett says, a man who uses a lot of italics needs to be watched. Preferably from a safe distance...

You may be right. Hubby is definitely more plot oriented while I have to like or feel some connection to the characters.

He'll watch something just for action, special effects, overall themes, etc. I don't really give a rat's patootie about that if I don't like any of the characters, the dialogue, their development and so on.
