Portal to hell opens up in the middle of Guatemalan street

^^ Joke, dude. :)

As a member of Generation Stupid who actually did try to disprove his claim, I'm actually pleased to gain some from of approval there. :D (And no-one realised that one of the links was something someone had posted only a few posts before, either. :p)

^^ We on the Mod staff cannot confirm or deny having feelings.

That was quite interesting, thanks for the link!
You're welcome. :)

I've seen the ads for that. I'm sorry, but that's a special kind of crazy right there!

I've also seen them and my impression was much the same as yours. (Of course, people who study Great Whites have also been known to go out at feeding time in open boats of length less than that of some of their study subjects, so I guess crazy is a job qualification, kinda.)

Photoshop.

"Generation Stupid," as your sig calls them, would have at least spent ten seconds on a Google search of the hundreds of news articles and video reports on the sinkhole before foolishly declaring it a Photoshop.

Oh my..............Facepalm.

*Sigh*

Yes, I saw the video, saw it on the news the other night and YES, I was kinda just doing a kneejerk, typical jaded poster response to something like this.

And they say Yanks don't get irony or whatever.

I told Nero to make sure the GPS was aligned...but nooo, the Great Romulan(TM) was sure he had it right.

It seems like the Earth is just cleaning house with all the recent seismic, volcanic and freak weather activity. She's the old lady yelling "Get off my lawn!"

Holes like this one, though, are not uncommon in that part of the world - they're found all over southeastern Mexico and the Yucatan, including parts of Guatemala (though I believe they're less common in the highlands where Guatemala City is located.) They're called cenotes, from the Yucatec Mayan word meaning "well," so called because such sinkholes at lower elevations usually fill with groundwater after they form.
