EXCLUSIVE SNEAK PEAK AT PHASE II "ORIGINS"!

Holy shit that was awesome! Colin does a much better acting job in this than his potrayal of Major Davis On Stargate: Sg1. This one was scene better than most of Star Trek 2009 (sorry JJ LOL).

This Pike is the most realistically portrayed military commander I've seen on Trek since Sisko.

Gah! Now I'm all wanting to see "Origins"! Why do you tease me so cruelly?! Why do I so cruelly click the link to watch! This is the internet's fault!

Seriously though, looks great and I can't wait to see it! :D

Having been on the receiving end of my fair share of ass-chewings by officers and senior NCO's, I could really feel for poor Jim in that scene.

Now it's got me wondering just what the hell he did in the transporter room that was so far off the mark...

Maybe it involved another beagle.

I think Pike was yelling at Kirk because he commited a canon violation!

"You're not supposed to meet me until I hand you the Enterprise in 2264 you little bastard!"

very well written and performed scene taken outside of Star trek continuity. Why do we have to tie all the old characters together back at the Academy? Hell, in The Menagerie Kirk states that he first met Captain Pike when he took over the Enterprise from him; yet now, in Origins ; Pike is cadet Kirk's commanding officer at Starfleet Academy.

When I heard of the project, I thought they might get a bit more creative and work in Kirk's past as stated in the show itself like the incident refered to in Obsession and see Captain Garrovick (who both McCoy and the Kirk character himself stated was more of a role model).

Still, what's there does look like an interesting setup, even if it re-writes a lot of early Kirk 'history' from the actual show.

Well, it's not as though Phase 2 has strictly adhered to canon. Kirk's nephew, Peter, is clearly around 11 in "Operation: Annihilate!" yet in the "4th" or "5th" season as Phase 2 is supposedly set, he's a Starfleet graduate in Security.

^Don't forget about that time they killed Chekov!

IMO the canon be happily tweaked or even trampled in order to tell an enjoyable story.

And Phase 2 is, after all, TOS seen through Cawley and co's eyes and not Gene Rodenberry's. Let them have fun with it and do what they want, I say!

(is this a bad time to request a batshit-crazy Gold Key style episode :)?)

Oops! The hardcore Star Trek fans know that's not correct.

Commodore Mendez says: You ever met Chris Pike?

Kirk says: When he was promoted to fleet captain.

You don't think Captain Pike was promoted to fleet captain at the same time that Kirk took command of the Enterprise, did you? I thought Pike became a fleet captain a good decade before that and then commanded a fleet of vessels from his flagship the Enterprise. I think that makes more sense to me--while both adhering to the letter and spirit of the canon law and upsetting the conventional Trek wisdom.

It's hard enough to adhere to canon. But it's important to be able to distinguish between stuff that's *actually* canon and stuff that Trek dilettantes have merely assumed is canon but which actually isn't.

I read on some othe forum: Star Trek fans are an odd lot: “Please tell me the stories that I *already* think I know; don’t presume to be able to tell me something I don’t yet know.”

Like the time warp Peter Kirk passed through... ;) (just kidding)

I know that George Samuel Kirk was a research biologist. If I recall, he was working on different therapies to alter the aging process--specifically to try and shorten the time humans require to reach maturity. It's possible that Peter Kirk was the "beneficiary" of his late father's research and aged to maturity somewhat faster than might be expected. (I think Dr. Kirk got a hold of some Klingon DNA to help him with the experiments, since Klingons reach maturity faster than humans.)

I know that George Samuel Kirk had three sons. If I recall, he named all three of his sons "Peter," just like boxer George Foreman named all his sons "George." (I wonder which of the three Peters is serving on the Enterprise.)
