Breaking Bad - Season 3

I almost have to wonder if they knew they would be going up against LOST's finale this week, & thought "What the hell. Jesse & Walt can chase around a fly for an hour" :guffaw:
Oh is that what they were doing while I was tearing my hair out, worrying that it was gonna be Purgatory After All? :rommie:

I missed a few eps this season, so I'll just catch up via Netflix. This episode was another great one. Very smart of Skylar to realize that even if they need a Danny, they also need a good story to tell their friends and family, because if the IRS investigates they will certainly check whether laser-tag seemed like an odd option to Hank and Marie.

Nice to see Jesse has latched onto more a suitable target for his rage than Hispanic Liz Taylor, even if it was aaaawfully convenient. Is Albuquerque really that small a town? However we all know this will not end well.

Much as I love Jesse...

Really you do? I actually like the character as far as its importance to the story, but he went over the edge for me in insisting that they sell meth to a recovering addicts group. Even his homies aren't down with that. Like there is no other market out there than those dozen or so people? Brutal.

At this point, neither Walt nor Jesse are redeemable to me. Walt jumped off when he watched Jane die. They're pretty much both scum. Now Skyler is dragging herself down as well. Even Hank is heading towards unlikeable.

^^^Love is a relative verb. On one level, I want Jesse to lose a tooth every time he says "yo." Without anesthesia, of course.

As for selling to the group, Jesse couldn't follow through any more than they could. When they started talking about working the steps, it came across that Jesse just wanted an excuse for his posse to be at hand. Despite all the bluster, Jesse has never been cruel. One one level, despite his brain being fried, he has been a good boy, obedient to his father figure.

On the other hand, he is quite sincere about his latest scheme for disguised self destruction, revenge for (I think he nickname was) Cosmo.

Because of his youth, ignorance and addiction, Jesse can't meet the standard that an experienced, sane adult should be expected to meet.

It would be dramatically appropriate for Walt to see how Hank, despite being "broken," didn't throw away his morals to feel better. When Hank lost it with Jesse, he manned up and confessed. Despite being fat, bald and a blowhard, which are superficial, Hank so far has been the decent one, despite appearances. It was Hank who called Walt on how he was treating Junior at the party.

He's deliberately doing evil things because of his rage over Jane's death. That doesn't mean he's an evil person. He's acting out, spectacularly.

Fair enough. And yeah, the "yo" and "bitch" got old really early on for me. Yikes.

I still say that, while some people may harbor a good person underneath (Jesse and Walt), a bad person is still a bad person, despite their excuse for being so. Even though he didn't want to go through with it in the end, he was still pushing the meth on the girl after they got back to her place. It wasn't until he started developing feelings for her that he backed away from it. He didn't have any trouble pushing meth on her before he banged her and found out she had a kid. Then it suddenly matters? Who knows how many others he wanted to push meth on had kids, but that didn't seem to bother him. I'm sorry, but to me that really is a "bad guy".

If you'll recall, he basically did the same thing to Jane, as she also was in rehab. Whether he intends to or not, he has a habit of dragging down and destroying the people around him. He really is "the bad guy".

There's also the thing that Jesse did to his parents. I never really saw them as deserving it. It appeared to me that they had probably really tried to support him (and they still did as best they could), but he likely pushed them to the limits of just about any parents.

^That's the ruse. Jesse is doing some really bad stuff lately. Not only that, but a lot of it is stupid. However, it's all rebellion & denial, a self loathing path to his own destruction, regardless of whether it will lead him to it, ultimately. Deep down he can't kill a junkie who robbed him, or sell to a mom he has feelings for, or get over his role in Jane's death. He is remorseful & regretful, & he's fighting that by convincing himself that he is an incorrigible villain, which he isn't, really, but he will do more bad, until he has come to terms with himself again

Walt is the other side of the coin, imo. He is doing his best to convince himself that he is not immoral, not the bad guy, but we have seen Walt reach depths of villainy far more gross that Jesse. He willfully choked a man to death, & chose to allow a woman to choke to death. He did those things for his own self interest or self preservation, & deep down I feel like that is all Walt cares about, himself & his family. At least that is all he has seemingly cared about up till now

I really believe we are not done seeing Walt do some serious bad. After all, he is the lead character on a show called "Breaking Bad"

Heisenburg is still due to become THE drug king of the area. We're just waiting to see how he takes out Gus at this point.

I don't know how Gus became such a large-scale operator, but Heisenburg is a long way off from that kind of power. You don't just kill off Gus and automatically take over an operation that size.

I didn't mean to imply that it's something that's going to happen any time soon. But the show has made it clear that he's going to be a major kingpin.

But the creator of the show, Vince Gilligan, did indicate that as the end of Walter's transformation from Mr. Chips to Scarface.

I think you must be watching a different show than me. They've hinted at it multiple times. The most notable being the Mexican ballad.

A great deal of high scale, cold blooded murder would be required in order for him to reach that level, as well as a profound leap in organizational skills, and power mastery, for him to be able to maintain such a position. I'm not saying it's impossible. In fact, I feel as though this is his inevitable path, but he's not yet even reached a point where he can admit to himself his true nature. Hell, he can't even decide on a laundering front, without involving his noob wife

Short of time leaping in their story, this would require some serious time to develop, but as far as him turning back to badness, I feel that part of the story looming & soon to break out

Oh My God! Another great episode of Breaking Bad as always.

Everything from the darkly humorous opening involving the prostitute to the epic ending which features the bad-ass return of Heisenberg was PURE GOLD.

I can't wait to see the season finale. I heard it's going to a specially exteneded one, about a hour and 40 minutes long or so.

Damn, don't screw with Walt!

That completely made up for the painfully slow first half of the season.

That is what I'm talking about! Jesse, you pud pulling crank head. Who's yo daddy? Heisenberg's yo daddy, that's who.

What a great setup to the season finale. So, after 3 seasons, I guess it's finally goodbye to the pea green Pontiac Aztek. I think I'm going to miss it

This thing could play out in any number of ways. Can't wait till next week

First episode I watched on 'release night'. The Heisen-save was freaking epic :guffaw:

The only negative thing, I watched 3x11, then noticed that the show airs on Sundays, so I'm like great! So... I flip through my channel listings... there's AMC, sure enough, there it is... I go up to my HD section.... and what the fuck, no AMC HD on U-verse. Legit TV I keep giving you chances and you just keep fucking up, but hey, Usenet was there for the rescue, as always.

Wow, i loved the tension in this one but thought it would be another slow-burn setup episode for the finale... then comes Heisen-Terminator... "Run!" Wow!:D
