I know a lot of us around here are college students (and maybe some high school students), so here is a thread to celebrate any graduations we have this spring! It feels good to be done, doesn't it?

Myself, I just finished my Master's degree in Public History. It was a difficult and stressful two years that culminated in a really tough last semester. I was able to complete my thesis in just three months and some really hard classes as well work two jobs. It has been so busy, but now I can taste freedom!

So what are your plans after graduation? Not just with you career but in general? I plan to read novels again - something I haven't had time for in years! As for my job, I have an internship until August and I am currently applying for a full time job with the same agency....we'll see how that goes.

Please tell us of your accomplishments! Feel free to brag, you've earned it.

Yes, congratulations on your achievement, but -- please forgive my ignorance -- what exactly IS “Public History”?

You can teach history and write books on history. My brother has a Ph.D. in history, and that's what he does (he's a professor at the University of Toronto).

Good questions, most people don't know what Public History is. It is the opposite of academic history, which you would get a degree in if you want to become a history teacher/professor or...whatever else people do with regular history degrees!

Public History deals with the public side of things...working in museums, archives, historic sites, that sort of thing. It is also a good degree for those working in the historic preservation field or for those in cultural resource management. Before any construction is done by the government they must review a site for any historical significance, so you can be part of the team that makes the report. And there is private historical consulting as well.

So actually, there's lots of options. It's more "hands-on" history. I plan to be an archivist.

People are SO disappointed at my work when they go on tours of the stacks and realize that we don't have a giant warehouse of dusty boxes marked "confidential." Reality is never so exciting! Well, there is the high security vault....

I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Human Bioscience & Psychology) in 1997, a Graduate Diploma in Genetic Counselling in 2003 and a Graduate Diploma in Psychological Studies last month.

I'm on class 2 of 12 in an MBA program and currently drowning in a condensed summer class I'm taking. Packing a grad level class into 4 weeks is pretty painful, but I get nearly my whole summer free.

I will graduate from high school on June 26. My last day of classes is the 11th. I really don't want to leave, not because I'm not ready to move on, but because there are several opportunities, mainly musical, that I will never have again. Next fall, I start classes at Buffalo State college, where i will pursue a degree in either History or Music education.

My daughter's last official day of Yr 12 (Farewell Breakfast & Assembly in the morning, Farewell formal dinner in the evening) is Sept 22 - the last day of term 3. Her HSC exams start 14th October. Results in December.

I just completed a BA in Media Arts from Tulane University. It's basically worthless but I've been working days and going to school at night so I graduated with no debt which is nice.
