I started this here and decided to make a new thread for it since it's really going somewhere now.

I realize that there is another NY-01 class floating around here but I thought of this right before he posted:shifty:

I've got this thing cut down into decks now and I'll be starting in on filling it out next. Here's the cross section I used to figure out how to break it down. Blue is the deck, magenta is the overhead and red is important features such as docking ports and power transfer conduits. Near the middle of the secondary hull you can see the main reactor. The space at the fore end of the secondary hull is the fusion reactor. The space in the belly is the deuterium tanks. The aft lower space is the hold and then the shuttle bay is above that.

While I could quibble with some details THIS is so much better than what is accepted as the Daedalus design seen in Sisko's office on DS9 and in publications.

Agreed. That's why I'm using it.

Here's a small bit of what I have gotten done. I'm not showing all the interior work I've done because I don't want the hassle of all the images  but I thought this image would peak your interest. If you look real close at the leader line arrows you will notice that they are Starfleet deltas. The title block was a quick and dirty one I threw together. I need to tweak all of my text and dim sizes for metric standards. I've always used ANSI because that's what I do at work.

To avoid stretching the page here's the link.

While perhaps not this design exactly this is the sort of departure from the familiar that ENT should have had the guts to go with. It would have helped to make the show more credible as pre TOS and helped set it apart stylistically from what came before.

^ Yeah, I agree with that.

I like this design. I was always annoyed that the old hull design just looked like a washing up liquid bottle or something.

I think the model actually was a bottle.

Not really on topic but the OP rolled with comments... While I agree this one is stylistically more pleasing and dramatic looking, the "original" has a very basic utilitarian elegance to it. It is a sphere and a cylinder. It's incredibly practical and lends credibility to the more complex evolution in starship design... The basic workhorse Daedalus, to the larger and more complex Enterprise, to the incredibly large and organic Galaxy class...

Yeah, but it annoyed that they didn't do more to disguise it.

I like the swept forward support pylons. I dislike the style of the nacelle caps at the aft ends--too TOS like. I also dislike the blue lighting along the naceles--too TNG like. But the overall thing is cool.

On my model I'm only going with inboard grills like the TOS trench. I have the TOS balls on mine because I like em:p

I wonder what it would look like if the neck was connected to the spherical forward hull more centrally.

Ah, the Aethernaut version of that design.
Since he's created it I've always loved it.

Mind just a speculation but that might offer the vessel the option of a 'spinal' mount weapon placement, the literal direct connection to engineering due aft for power and the forward facing discharge aperture of the secondary hull.

That said, one could imagine the truly upscaled-oversized phaser weapon that might be installed.

I've got the deflector installed in a spinal mount currently. If you look at the power system image the PTC that runs forward terminates at the deflector. On Monday I'll try to post some new images because I'm out of town right now and will get back Sunday night.
