How is there no Red Dead Redemption thread here???

Game looks pretty awesome. I will have to check it out... right after I catch up on my current gaming catalog.

I put about 3 hours into the game yesterday. The move out of modern-ish times in the city REALLY helped this game, IMO. It's been surprisingly addictive even though I've just been riding around the desert most of the time admiring the scenery. So far the wild west setting and having Marston appear to be an honorable guy from the start is really working for me, much moreso than the stereotypical gritty badass which has just become a lame cliche at this point.

I can't wait to get further into this game and try the multiplayer.

I just read about the MP free-roam mode... it sounds pretty awesome if you have a good group of friends to do it with.

Is the game worth the hype? GTA4 was fun at first but I eventually got burned out by its repetitiveness. Also, what console are you playing on in case I want to get it and need a posse to ride around with? :)

Honestly?
At this point I'm thinking GOTY. :techman:

So far I've done a lot of target shooting, skinned some deer, roped some wild horses, done some bronco busting, shot a rustler and played a lot of poker. Great fun. I love it.

Picked it up today, it is a really fun game...
It looks like you are best of doing Bonnies missions 1st since that gives you the basic equipment/skills for getting bounties alive...

I'm considering buying this game, but my decision really hinges on how strong a multiplayer aspect it has.

Is it true that there is no match making or anything similar? You just have to find 15 of your own friends and then take them into multiplayer modes?

^ I haven't read too much into it and don't have the game, but there are two types of multiplayer -- the standard modes and then sort of a "free range" type of mode. I don't know anything about matchmaking for the latter.

Got it this morning and the guy said there was only two copies left in the store. I didn't think this game was going to be popular enough for me to have to pre-order, seems I was wrong.

It has been good fun so far, the highlights have been the time my horse was killed by a cougar and accidentally chasing some cows over a cliff. The horse controls take some getting used to, but I'm getting the hang of it.

Yeah some the stuff you can do on multiplayer is funny as hell.

Me and two friends formed a posse and they were driving a stagecoach shooting at the pony express. Well, I lean out the stagecoach, shoot both horses pulling it, and my friend goes flying off the stagecoach

My other friend was also on the losing end of a game of chicken between horse/stagecoach.

Beautiful game!

I'm still getting used to riding my horse but I'm absolutely useless at trying to shoot anyone while riding. My insistance using the lasoo on everyone has got me killed a few times.

I don't like having to change the weapons using RS and keep trying to do it using the D Pad (it seems more natural). I haven't had a gander at the options yet to see if I can change that around.

Heh, is that Tony DeLongis (Maje Culluh) as the Marshall?

And I'm sure I heard a Frakes in there too...

That's my biggest problem with the controls so far, in order to ride and shoot your thumb needs to control the right stick and hold down the A/X button at the same time. It would have made more sense if RB/R1 was used to make the horse go and A/X was used to slow the horse down. It's manageable with the auto-aim turned on, but I imagine it will be a lot harder once I turn it off in future play-throughs.

Love it so far. Exactly what I wanted it to be. But I don't have an HD TV and unfortunately the text is kinda hard to read on a standard old CRT :/

Found this tip at another bbs:

If you have no moral standards, and I must not for thinking of this, you can speed things up by wearing the elegant suit. Aside form it allowing you to cheat on each hand (which could help you win overall) in this case you don’t want to get away with it. Let them catch you cheating. They’ll call you out on it and the person that caught you will challenge you to a duel. Kill, rinse, wash, repeat. You lose no honor (they challenged you) and when you go back to the table there’s one less player.
