Concerning Spock's eyebrows... am I seeing things?

Spock has a tint under his eyebrows, is it bluish, or just dark skin colour? I keep seeing it one way, then the other during the series... it's makin' me crazy!!! Which is it really? Or are Vulcans kinda chameleon that way?:vulcan:

Mmh, differences in makeup and lighting? That should be enough to explain the change between scenes and episodes.
I was just wondering if it might be differences the colour correction in the remastering... - Spock's general skin tone appears more yellowish in some eps than in others.

I'm watching Galileo Seven right now, and his skin is normal human coloured

Maybe Nimoy - and my eyes - lied. He's recounted how they ended up settling on yellowish. It was the source of the "my friend is obviously Chinese" joke.

as for the eyeshadow... looks blue to me.

^ So was Vina in Orion slave girl form early on, until somebody realized they were color-correcting in post. So many things go into what you see on screen, between make-up, lighting, processing of film and post production, that it's a herculean feat to get even one episode to be consistent.

That said... he was yellow with blue highlights.

Correct. The make-up company, Max Factor, IIRC, came up with a special blend to Fred Phillips' satisfaction. It combined their traditional yellowish "Chinese" base with a regular flesh tone. They called it "LN1" (for Leonard Nimoy) and supplied it to Desilu/Paramount exclusively. That makeup was used on all Vulcans made up by Phillips for both TOS and TMP, and quite often by later makeup artists. (Supposedly LN1 was used on TNG's "Farpoint" Vulcan crewmembers, T'Shanik from Vulcana Regar, and Dr Selar.)

Yes, it was usually blue in TOS, but remember that TOS used lots of coloured gels over the studio lighting, so it's hard to trust many shots.

Early on his bangs were higher too, which either naturally emphasized some forehead wrinkles, or they lined those. He definitely gets a bit suave-er looking by later s1 with more gracefully swept brows. And no, I'm not a stalker, I just tend to overanalyze things.
