Some Sub-Rosa Thoughts...

I've said it before, but the big problem I have with this episode is Quint and by extension the whole colony. Where did this guy and that colony come from if in the 24th century they are running around afraid of ghosts. Star Trek had a problem with apparently believing they were paying homage to cultures by representing them as they were in the 15th century.

I agree with that. There have been two episodes where they portrayed Scottish people as they where in the 1600s.

It's a creepy episode, and not Twilight Zone creepy, but I-accidently-saw-my-grandmother-topless creepy....and that's not good.

There was nothing wrong with Beverly's "big-o" scene. She's several years my senior and I still think she's a good-looking woman.

What's wrong with the episode is that the whole thing plays-off like a terrible $5 grocery-store romance novel.

Beverly has a history of bad romances that would make Lady Gaga gag-gag.

The trill, the guy who evolves into energy, a ghost, future Picard...
Makes you wonder about Jack, doesn't it

Jack Crusher was set up by Picard... he knew that he'd never survive that away mission, and wanted Jack out of the way... Picard not only had Jack killed, he had the balls to bring Jack's body home to Beverly in person, to prove to her he was dead. That took stones.

In all seriousness, I love this episode... to me, Gates is the female form perfected, so just being able to see her give a nice and sexy performance was a big treat for me, and while it was a racy thing for TNG to do, I applaud them for daring to do it.

Gates looked great in the scene, but the episode...not great.

Gates' best episode might be Suspicions...saw it last week, she got to do a lot and was a well rounded character.

RAMA

It's pretty clear they did not do enough with all the gorgeousness, the hotness, the sexiness, and the smartness at stake, and they didn't give her the right partner for the tango. :p

...must...not...write...Crusher / Troi...slashfic!

No, I was not talking about Troi or Marina Sirtis.

I have at least two persons in mind: co-star Patrick Stewart and a real-life youth crush of hers, Robert Redford, in a guest role.

Indeed....

^^

A threesome...? With Picard and a Redford-guest character....?

Nooo....

If there was going to be a different route, there is no reason they couldn't have gotten a younger dude for Crusher a couple years her junior, or someone slightly closer to her age, older/younger....

...A simple story of 'How Beverly Got Her Groove Back'....

...And after she severely gets her freak on, she leaves the guy heartbroken:(...and gives the details to Troi (who thankfully left her nose out of Beverly's business) just as the credits begin...

Hot...!

I always thought they should've had a running joke of some junior doctor who fancied her.

Kinda like Agent Pendrell in the X-Files with Scully.

Great episode. The key is to just flip your perspective. Like "Spock's Brain," look at it as a comedy, played hilariously straight. That's the only explanation for a story where a woman gets turned on reading her grandmother's erotic journal, then gets the hots for her granny's lover. And the broad stereotyping. And Picard, seemingly totally serious, saying, "funny, you don't look Scottish" to a forehead alien.

The kicker for me was the fog on the bridge, especially Jonathan Frakes' deadpan reading of the line, "It just rolled in." He was the director on this one, so he knew better than anyone what he was going for. At that point, you know that they're not taking this seriously.

As a comedy, brilliant stuff, and a really fun episode to watch.
