Is Abrams Trek a remake of Nemesis?

Pissed off Romulan screws with Starfleet officer to destroy billions in a personal vendetta- sound familiar?

Sorry if this has been noted already, I've been away a while.:)

Hmmm. He uses some mysterious gobbledygook that we've never heard of before in a special weapon deployed from a huge, menacing ship with lots of pointy bits.

(actually, it's hard to find Trek films that don't involve super-weapons and mad-men out to destroy planets. kind of hard. I mean, not like you can't do it, but...you know what I mean. right?)

He kills a bunch of pointy-eared aliens of a familiar race.

A familiar character dies with unsatisfying impact.

....hmmm.

It's more of a remake of TWOK than Nemesis, IMO. With Nero in the role of Khan and the Red Matter subbing for the Genesis device.

Nemesis makes me want to...

Alongside Insurrection, Final Frontier, and Generations.

In Star Trek Ten, Deanna rams into the Scimitar, resulting in a lot of damage.

In Star Trek Eleven, Kirk rams into Gaila, resulting in ...

Let's see:

- Both have a car chase ending in a leap over a desert canyon
- Both double a key character
- Both involve villains from the fringes of Romulan society on a massive ship
- Both villains intend to blow up Earth out of an ill-defined sense of revenge
- Both very prominently star Wil Wheaton :p
- Both have a cameo from an elder statesperson from a prior Trek series
- Both feature many more stylistic camera and effects flourishes than previous movies and series
- Both introduce a new warp effect

... "not my father's Star Trek", my arse! Still, a lot more fun than Nemesis.
