Kate's Door Step

So, someone sent Kate Mulgrew a package directly to her personal home address.

Totally Kate just made a post about it on Facebook asking to refrain and send fan items to a different address. TK said any packages arriving at Kate's doorstep would be destroyed and would never actually make it to Kate.

I know what you're thinking, but I respect an actor's privacy.

Besides, this just creeps me the heck out. I mean, there's overzealous fan, and then there's just plain creepy.

Who DOES that?

:wtf:

It was probably a new fan of new role on Mercy.

Those zombies following medical shows are right weirdos. ;)

Maybe it's because I read too many political posts, but my first thought was, "Holy crap, that could have been a bomb, or poison, or God Knows What."

Just not cool...

Also, I would think zombies would go after someone like Stephen Hawking.

It was probably a collage at best and used underwear at worst, because killing/sidelining kate NOW wouldn't effect Voyager at all, unless Rumours from Russ have gotten people a little on edge that this can of worms is tipped out again.

Although, I have no idea why meat puppets like actors are stalked when it is the writers, and certainly the producers who should be lauded with praise and lionized for the shows triumphs.

Every celeb has a stalker....

Also generally speaking, sci-fi has a tendency to attract fanatics that can't distinguish fantasy from reality and believe they know these actors personally based on the roles they play. Sending a package directly to Mulgrew's door step IMO is an example of this.

Sigh.

Many years ago, in a simpler time before the internet; I read an autobiography by a famous actress who's 103rd birthday was today. I loved the book and I wanted to tell her, so I sent a fan letter to her vacation home in Conneticut which she visited ever weekend per her book.

I honestly didn't know where it was in Conneticut, so I simply addressed it to her c/o the largest town near where I thought she lived. I mailed it on a Monday. She picked it up that weekend, brought it back to Manhattan and mailed the response from there the very next Monday.

1992 was a much simpler time, and I've treasured that letter ever since.

R.I.P. and Happy Birthday KH. Say Hi to Lena for me.

Im afraid those of us that have lived under Terrorism a lot longer then the USA find this rather frightening. We've had birthday cakes which blew up over here in the Uk, not nice at all.

For me, it suspect Kate will be moving herself out of that house as quickly as possible.

There is obviously a glitch somewhere in the security system they use, how did they get hold of her home address, other then actually seeing her or her family enter the house.

I hope they get it sorted out as quickly as possible. The thought of Ms Mulgrew being made uncomfortable by this really miffs me somewhat.

How did she know it was from some crazed fan and not, say, the slippers she'd ordered from Amazon?

The Mulgrew fan community is a little more tight knit than you might imagine. It's a long story, but, trust me, she knew.

Again, she lives in a very public spot light. Anyone can look her up if they really want to because of her husband. That doesn't make it okay to invade her privacy, however.

My question is the same as udat's... who DOES that? It is creepy. :wtf:

Unfortunately 9/11 changed everything... just think, whenever anyone refers to 9/11 you never have to specify a year.
True but monitoring packages being sent to celebs has been going on way before 9/11.

Young actress Rebecca Schaeffer of "My Sister Sam" and singer Selena, both were murdered by stalkers who were fans. Also who hasn't heard about David Letterman or Steven Spielberg's stalkers? This is when the public started to understand this was a major issue for celebs.

*cue eerie music*

"What's going on over there? I saw you with the box. "Awwwww, what's in the booooox? What's in the ******* box?!"

It's not just sci-fi fans. There was the "Free Deirdre" campaign for the Coronation Street character some years ago, where the character was jailed (can't remember why; I don't watch the show) and people and newspapers all over the UK launched a campaign to have her freed. I'm sure a lot of people were in it for fun but a good handful of people took the campaign very seriously, and there was a lot of press coverage. The media involvement wouldn't have helped those who already had trouble separating reality from fantasy.

Put me in the "this is creepy" camp. It must be so unsettling for Mulgrew and other unfortunates who receive this kind of attention.
