Stressful Days

Gryffindorian

The past couple of days, I've found that I've been making some mistakes at work and haven't been concentrating or paying attention as well as I should, which even makes me feel overwhelmed and stressed out.

Last night I had to stay an hour late in the office because of a couple of mistakes I had made in the afternoon that I needed to correct. I was printing the payroll checks and deposit slips for our company's 1,200 retirees, and I absent-mindedly clicked on the wrong print file (there were two of them) and ended up duplicating a whole stack of them and wasting 600 copies. Fine, I restarted the print job with the correct file. When the printer ran out of check stocks at some point, I added some more, not realizing I had fed them in the wrong direction! So a range of checks (about 130 of them) had to be reprinted, and I asked my co-worker's help to extract the necessary data to re-upload and rerun the file so that I could reprint the misfed checks. Although "Sam" was very gracious about it, I thanked him and I apologized for his leaving the office later than usual.

Today I had another "senior episode." I misplaced an important piece of document that I was supposed to give a co-worker, and I couldn't remember, for the life of me, where the hell I put it. I retraced my steps, checked all the places/desks I had stopped by, asked other co-workers, and sent out a note if they had seen anything. After swimming through the dozens of envelopes in the mail room, I finally found it. I apologized to "Sherry" profusely, and she said it was okay, but I still felt so embarrassed and upset with myself. So I decided to go home early, thinking what the fuck was wrong with me.

Although such incidents were minor and there was no damage done, I still felt pretty bad. :scream: I guess I'm just venting now. I'm sure people have had some pretty stressful situations at work. Feel free to share them.

Drone, sorry to hear you had such a stressful day!

Those senior moment things really stress me out too...more in that they frustrate me to the point of almost crying. Like, where the fuck did i put something??? i can't stand when i forget something like that.

One of the most stressful days i ever had at work was my last day at the nursery. I was responsible for watering an entire greenhouse (it was a big one) and i had put it off until the end of the day since in the morning when i checked the plants they were still quite wet from the day before. When i walked into the greenhouse everything was now dry to the point of starting to wilt. I literally saw the plants ahead of me falling over from lack of water. I couldn't get that fricken house watered fast enough. I was stressed to the max. It didn't help that i was smack in the middle of a major 'nervous breakdown' at the time. Ugh, that was one of the worst days of my life.

Thanks for sharing, Randi. That must've been a grueling experience for you. I currently attend this workshop for employees on Emotional Intelligence (EI). One of the key components of EI is Self Management, which includes managing one's emotions. Humans are said to be hardwired to feel, express, and react with emotions when we perceive things with our senses and interact with people on a daily basis. I have yet to master Self Management and Relationship Management and learn other skills so that I can improve on my EI scores (although I didn't do too bad the first time I took the test).

These things happen to all of us. You have to be sure you're taking care of yourself. Maybe you need a vacation or a long weekend, just to get away from work for a while.

Thanks. About the only time of the year I actually go on "vacation" is the last week of December during the holidays, and it would be really nice if I had more vacation time (and money) saved up to go someplace, like good old Las Vegas. I've been thinking about taking one of those starter cruises (Mexico, the Caribbean), as I've never been on a cruise before.

Eat plenty of fruit, oily fish, and leafy green vegetables, take fairly strenuous aerobic exercise for at least 40 minutes every other day, and keep hydrated, but don't overhydrate. If you have routine complex tasks to perform for which mistakes are costly, document the workflow, create a checklist, and tick items off on it as you work through the list.

Yeah, I could definitely use more fruit and veggies in my diet. I was also thinking about getting some ginseng or herbal supplements to help me with concentration.

Ok Drone, I'll raise you... Found my bank card missing. Went to last place, supermarket where I knew I used it in one of there self checkout things. Went back day after to ask if they'd found it ~ 'Youngman' at customer services said 'No'

So cancelled all on my card. Transferred all of my money to another account. Have to now tell all 'owed' that it's going to be late.

Went to supermarket today and just asked if it had turned up ~ to be told it was there yesterday and because I didn't claim it it had now been destroyed. Excellent!

Aww, so sorry to hear that, K'Ehleyr. Sometimes it just hasn't been our day, week, month, or year, but as the song goes ... ;)

Drone, what have we done to ruin our karma?

To cheer myself up I thought I'd trim and colour my hair tonight. The last time I did it, it came out a little bit more red for my liking ~ kinda ginger [no offence but it doesn't suit me].
So I did a 'medium brown' ~ Now I'm blooming black haired and that doesn't suit me either.
And just checking now and I have also managed to get what looks like a big black paw print just below my collar bone. I'm actually going to keep that and say that I was attacked by a jaguar that had killed a squid on the way :)
Chin up Honey :techman:

No ~ Sainsburys found it because I stupidly left it in the 'self checkout' thing. They usually give you a day or so to collect but because 'Youngman' was useless and couldn't find it I've had to transfer all money ~ got paid the day before so did panic.

In the end it was my fault because I left it, but 'Youngman' deserves a slap IMHO.

Thinking of making a stance
but can't really be assed...

If anybody wants to add to that song...

You should make make a fuss. That was a big fail on their part. They owe you some coupons or something. ;)

"Thinking of making a stance
but can't really be assed...
But it is a matter of finance
And I am feeling harassed
So I might just take a chance
And hire me some Holdfast."
