I've got a pretty good idea of where you were -- on (or just off) the Land's End Trail near the USS San Francisco Memorial. That flat-topped bit sticking in from the right, just below the Fort Point end of the bridge in your picture, is just a little above and to the right of center in this Google Maps view, if I'm not mistaken.
