NHL Discussion - 2009-2010 Season

Wonder if the Blue Jackets are regretting trading Leclaire and keeping Mason after tonight's triple OT game. Quite a performance for a career first playoff start.

The Sharks actually won a game by more than one goal. Who would have thunk that.

Great win tonight, but it's not over. Colorado can easily come back and lay into San Jose in Denver for Game 6. I hope that doesn't happen, but I'll be a lot happier when the series is over and the Sharks are waiting for the next opponent. Still, great win, and I'm very happy for Nabokov. Last week I was questioning his ability in the big game and to a small extent I'm still doing that, but a Shut out can go a long way towards changing that opinion.

Speaking of poor goaltending-based decisions, I know I speak for the entire Leafs nation when I say:

"Tuuka Raask...

:sigh: :sigh: :sigh: :sigh: :sigh:"

Based on his performance so far, I'd call that trade the worst mistake Toronto has made since failing to lock up Bobby Orr.

Hey! I'm trying to forget that over here!

The defending champs move on, eliminating Ottawa in OT.

Now this is a hockey player. Eric Belanger lost half a dozen teeth or so after getting clipped in the mouth by a stick in the first period. He had the exposed roots trimmed and returned to the ice in the third.

Explains Belanger: "I knew I was in trouble, but what are you going to do? It's the playoffs."
He expects to play in Game 6 at Montreal on Monday.

ETA: And now the Sharks have moved on, defeating the Avs in 6. Congrats to the Sharks and look out for the Avs in the future. They'll only get better.

Or to put it in Pittsburghese-- "Ladies and Gentlemen, Elvis has just left the building!"

Two years in a row, winning the Quarterfinals after tanking Game 5 and falling behind 3 - 0 in Game 6. Certainly not complaining if the whole Playoffs follow last years' script, but man that was rough on the nerves.

Seriously, good win for the Sharks. I'm not jumping up and down mainly because this is just the first phase of the business that needs to be taken care of. There is still 8 wins to go just to get to the finals and then the rest is history.

Colorado impressed me this year. They’re a young team who is going to be a force to be reckoned with for the next few years. Craig Anderson really showed he is no fluke. What a year and what a series this guy had. It will be fun to watch them next year because I think they are going to get a higher seed this time in 2011. They are that good of a team.

The Coyotes utterly humiliated Detroit today. Game 7, Tuesday in Glendale... :bolian:

By the way. If you haven't seen this goofy moment from Game 5 in Chicago, you'll get a good laugh.

I'm glad Colorado is out, I've never like them even when they were the Quebec Nordiques.
also now that Ottawa is out the only Canadian teams left are Vancouver and Montreal and I hope the Capitals send their asses packing tomorrow as I hate the habs.

Nice work Canucks, phew! That PK really had me worried for a bit there.

So glad we have a short layoff now, I think sweeping the Blues last year really hurt us. Bring on Chicago, that's a series that is going to get nasty.

You call what they were doing a PK? You're awful generous.

But your team is moving on and mine isn't, so you've got that going for you, eh?

No doubt. 6 pp goals in a row. I was vomiting everytime we got a penalty. That might have been the liquor consumption though, unsure.

Man, the Avs defied everyone's expecatations this year by a long shot, I think they and their fans have to be proud of what they accomplished this year. The future looks bright for you guys I have to say, and being in the same division as you is going to start feeling unfair, like it did back in the Sakic/Forsberg/Roy days. Dammit.

If Halak and the Habs' defense play Game 7 like they played last night, I smell a colossal upset in the making. I'd laugh, but it'll be my team struggling to beat Halak next.

Well, okay. I'll still laugh if the Caps fall in the first round after leading a series 3-1.
