Explanation for Claire's ghostly apperance? (SPOILERS up to latest)

Has there been any explanations as to why or how we saw Claire as a ghost to Kate last season in Aarons room?

We've learned that dead people can appear on the island because they haven't moved on, and we've learned that the MIB can appear as people but only after they are dead. Since Claire is not dead, then what is the explanation for her appearing to Kate last season?

Re: Explanation for Claire's ghostly apperance? (SPOILERS up to latest

Isn't she a dead smoke zombie like Sayid?

We don't know that means they are dead, we know Sayid WAS dead, but we don't know of Claire was ever dead. I don't think she was. I also don't think she's infected like Sayid, just really angry and mislead. Anyway, no proof exists yet if she died and was brought back to life.

Re: Explanation for Claire's ghostly apperance? (SPOILERS up to latest

Even if that was the case, it still wouldn't really explain why/how she could appear to Kate off of the Island.

And if it Claire did die, and smokie took her form and appeared to Kate off Island (and made a phone call to her) why would he tell her not to return to the Island (not bring Aaron back to the Island) when it seems that Smokie's plan involves needing all of them to get off of the Island?

So if it was Smokie it would be another example of him saying or telling someone something that would go against his own interests and could possibly ruin his whole escape plan.

Re: Explanation for Claire's ghostly apperance? (SPOILERS up to latest

That was a dream, as I recall.

Re: Explanation for Claire's ghostly apperance? (SPOILERS up to latest

That was a dream, as I recall.

I don't know if it was.

From what i remember--

Kate is sleeping. The phone rings and wakes her. She answers and it is just a bunch of garbled voices. She hangs up. hears a noise from Aaron's room. She jumps out of bed, grabs a gun from her closet. She goes down to Aaron's and room and sees a woman bending over the crib. She yells at the woman and points her gun. The woman turns around and it is Claire. Claire tells her not to bring Aaron back to the Island. Cut to Commercial.

And that was it. So I don't think it was a dream, because then we should have had a scene where she wakes up from the dream. Without that then we are left to assume that it really happened. And unless I am forgetting something or misremembering, that never happened, did it?

Lostpedia is claiming it as a hallucination or dream, which is what I chalked it up as

I wonder if that is how they are going to explain away lots of stuff?

Jack's ghost dad at the hospital? Hallucination.
Hurley seeing Charlie's ghost behind the window in the cop shop? Hallucination.

And so many more things they can get away with by just saying it was a hallucination or a dream.

Kind of a really cop out if you ask me.

Re: Explanation for Claire's ghostly apperance? (SPOILERS up to latest

Jacob can be off-island. Was it Jacob? Not sure who's watching MiB when he was traipsing around touching people.

My hunch is that they won't even address stuff like that at all. I don't think they're going to bother going through every appearance by a dead person throughout the show and give us an explanation for it. I think we'll just be left with the fact that they all fit into one of three categories:

1) MiB in disguise
2) an actual ghost who talks to Hurley
3) a hallucination

and it'll be up to us to guess which category each incident falls under.

Yeah, she wakes up from the dream and goes to Aaron room to check on him. The room is empty except for sleeping Aaron and she starts crying and saying that she's sorry.

See the whole scene

That said, it's still odd that she gets some sort of prophetic dream of Claire warning Kate to not bring Aaron back. I wonder if this warning will be followed up on.

Re: Explanation for Claire's ghostly apperance? (SPOILERS up to latest

Weird. Didn't remember her waking up like that.
Hmmm...

I guess it's one of those things we probably won't hear about again, if it was prophetic or not.

Unless she was supposed to bring Aaron back to the Island. And it was MIB's influence that she didn't.

Speaking of which, but UnLock, aka MiB, can appear off island as well. Remember he stated that he took the form of Christian (Jack's father) when Flight 815 crashed? he also appeared to Jack off island.

Sometimes, no matter what the producers allegedly say, I think they're making this shit up as they go along and never had a basically skeleton outline for this story even though they claim it was always laid out.

Re: Explanation for Claire's ghostly apperance? (SPOILERS up to latest

I'm thinking it was Jacob, cuz we all know he can leave the island. But everytime Jacob/MIB appearing offscreen reminds me off the line Mrs Clue had at the end of Season Two to Michael about Walt appearing places he shouldn't be. That sounds like Walt and Jacob may be in a similar boat, and that Jacob may not have ever left the island, just as Walt never left the Others but popped up long enough to speak backwards to Shannon while rainning on himself.

Right. I also got the distinct impression that Walt was astral projecting, & that maybe others on the show could do it too. It wouldn't be any weirder than time travel, anatomical regeneration, alternate dimensions, & coming back from death

Re: Explanation for Claire's ghostly apperance? (SPOILERS up to latest

I figured Walt's astral projection was a given now. I'm just hoping they address it before the end of the show (even if we were to accept that he is "special" and an explanation is not needed, I feel they need to show this more specifically without any of the crypticness they've used in the past).

I have an ongoing disagreement with a co-worker right now regarding the creators of LOST with that being there was no direct planning with the show. I equate it with the underpants gremlins of South Park:
1) Develop a TV show about an airplane disaster
2) ?
3) FINALE!

Re: Explanation for Claire's ghostly apperance? (SPOILERS up to latest

Yeah, but "?" was way back in season 2.

Re: Explanation for Claire's ghostly apperance? (SPOILERS up to latest

Honestly, there are some things they clearly planned from the beginning. There are other things they probably didn't. And there are third things that they probably had an idea and then changed it over time (I feel the Others and the Whispers fall into this category). There's no question that the long term planning in the show is incredible, but I don't think it was absolute. I do feel that the outline of this season was something planned out during the first.

Re: Explanation for Claire's ghostly apperance? (SPOILERS up to latest

What are some of the things that were planned from the beginning? I'm trying really hard, but I can't think of a single thing outside of very broad generalizations.
