Reeves-Stevens' Novels

Federation and The Ashes of Eden are not only my favorite R-S books, they're quite probably my favorite Trek books, full stop. I also liked Memory Prime, and I must say I share Seigzunt's opinion of Prime Directive. After those two other hardcover events, I expected to be absolutely blown away by it. Maybe that was the problem, that my expectations were unacheivably high, but I found it to be rather mundane, IMHO. But it doesn't really matter, because Federation and The Ashes of Eden make for any mundanities they may have had, with interest.

Thank you for sharing. I've felt wirdly in the minorityon this. I thought I was going to enjoy it, and it opens with a real epic feel, the kind from the early books I love. But it just sort of sputters out for me.

I loved Millenium because it was a cool thrill ride through a nightmarish alternate universe. I wish the Grigari would be utilized again but for real this time. Their invasion and near destruction of everything I hold dear in the Alpha Quadrant was just awesome! They were as scary as the early Borg and far harder to stop!

Did you ever play the DS9: The Fallen video game? I played the hell out of it for a while, and I think it's getting near time to revisit it.

I had that game but I never really made time to play it all the way through. I think I'll give it another shot one of these days.

I started playing The Fallen, found it a little frustrating, and gave up on it for a while. Then I found a couple of good walkthroughs and played it to death. It's not perfect, it's dated, but there's a lot to like in it.

I just bought Star Trek Online and I'll probably start playing it next week. That coupled with all my recent Trek book purchased probably means I won't be playing TF again for a while. Depends on how much I like STO I suppose.

Well I thought Millennium was full of creativity but didn't actually make sense or accomplish anything at all, so that wasn't a favorite, but I adored Federation. That's all of theirs I've read so far.

I always forget they wrote the Millennium books. I loved the first book, thought the 2nd was OK and I had to struggle to make it through the 3rd.

I really liked Federation and Prime Directive. I'm pretty sure I liked Memory Prime but don't remember much about it and plan on re-reading it soon.

Word of caution: Don't read current novels like Destiny, Losing the Peace, etc, then try and go back and read J&G books. i tried to read Millenium last night. YEESH! Seems like the worst fan fiction. Small universe syndrome has erupted into a cancer in those books

I loved that game. I virtually never play computer games of any type but picked this up in the January sales and played it until I'd completed it as every character. Great fun.

On topic, I'd opt for Federation and Millennium, along with The Return and Spectre from the Shatnerverse. Their writing can verge on the fanwanky at times, but they do it with such gusto and such a sense of the epic, that it's irresistible.

for a good number of years the Millennium trilogy had been my favorite Trek story - it's great - epic and on a grand scale.

Also, Prime Directive is still one of my favorite TOS stories..

As a side note to this thread, I have another interesting question to ponder:

If Reeves-Stevens had the incredible good fortune to write STXII, would you prefer an original story, or a treatment of Federation or Prime Directive? I dont think Memory Prime would lend itself well to a major motion picture treatment.

Any Reeves-Stevens movie would make me

I see you had the same reaction I did to these. I had a hard time taking them seriously at all, I was ing so hard from the small universe syndrome.

Prime Directive is great during the "Where are they now" sections. The parts at Talin when Kirk retells the story and when they all meet up there at the end are terrible. I love the bits with Kirk rockrigging, Sulu and Chekov becoming pirates and Spock hanging out in Berkely.
