How many crew can the new Enterprise hold?

For a starship nearly a half a mile long? It could be as high as ten thousand or as low as a hundred. All depends on what they need the ship to do.

Kelvin had a crew of 800, but in terms of vital structures was close to the same size as Enterprise. The newer ship might make better use of automation and may include larger storage bays for longer duration voyages; I'd put the estimate anywhere between 800 and 1000.

I haven't seen anyone mention this. The Kelvin didn't have 800 crew. It had 800 survivors. God knows how many crew had died prior to abandoning ship.

I always took that as a rough estimation like the total number of survivors in the ragtag fleet on BSG. Sometimes they say 50,000, other times 40,000 when the actual number (as written on the whiteboard and in the opening credits) is roughly closer to 47,000 (at the start anyway: by season four the number dropped all the way down to the 37,000's) .

While that's a much bigger number than 800 its the same principle at work. "Your father was captain of a starship for twelve minutes. He saved seven hundred and eighty-six lives... some of whom died on the way home from injuries sustained during the attack" while specific, is not nearly as dramatic. "Okay then, so technically I would only need to save seven hundred and eighty-seven lives in order to be better than Dad, right?"

Okay; so instead of exactly 800 survivors there's roughly 800 survivors from the Kelvin. No problem with that. We still don't know how many didn't survive; 1 or 1000?
Maybe they just lost George Kirk, Captain Rabau, and that dude that got sucked out into space. So 3-ish?

In regards as to how many crew the new Enterprise can hold. I bet they could hold more if they utilized all of that open space in engineering.

There's the chief engineer when a bulkhead exploded next to him, the guy on the catwalk who got blown away when they took that first torpedo hit, and probably a few dozen other people in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Twenty to thirty at least.
