I like the alt uni & crack in the wall explanation for Amy not knowing about Daleks. Hey, maybe we're in the twin ten uni now. And maybe Time Lords exist here.
The twin Ten universe didn't seem to have a time vortex; the TARDIS even "died" upon entering it. Ergo, I don't think so. Anyway, it's been a running joke in Doctor Who since Rememberance Of The Daleks (1988) or before that no-one really remembers these supposedly life-changing events.

Well, I enjoyed it.

Smith and Gillan good all over again. Interesting to see that Eleven seems even angrier at the Daleks than Nine and Ten. That hesitation while he thought about having lost the Daleks to save Earth... mmm. I found it odd that Miss Gillan's skirt passed without comment.

McNiece did a good job as Churchill, though he was a bit overweight. Chap who played Bracewell was also pretty good. Deactivating the bomb was the one naff part of the ep.

The Daleks. Hmm. I think they were Daleks from PotW m'self. As for the new ones, they do seem a bit bulky, but I can live with it. And more dangerous than ever.

It's an AU. "The Palace and St Paul's were hit again". I don't think St Paul's was ever hit. Which begs the question: who's the real Doctor in this AU? And is Amy Pond 'real' or not? Saw a huge spoiler for the series (Moffatt in a mag article), which makes me think we are in for some serious wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey.

Next week! Weeping Angels 2 parter! And River Song!

Did they have to do that US victory flag pose, with the UK, its too American for a British show IMO.

By this time I think that photo is pretty much known internationally. I took it as sort of a 'See, we can do it too.' joke.

I have to admit this is one of the few times I actually didn't like the episode. As others have said, way too rushed and about as deep as a comic strip on the back of a cereal box. Honestly, for all the money they must have spent making the new Daleks, you'd think they'd have put more effort into the story. It honestly did feel like something that was thrown together over a weekend.

* Churchill's actor: Definitely way off. All I can figure is he was the closest they could find.

* I'm not the sort who complains about change. I didn't have a problem with the new Daleks until I saw them on screen. Wow. That middle section really is too big. And the 'hump' on the back looks horrible.

* So wait. That machine was supposed to re-sequence DNA? So where did the new casings come from? Unless they're trying to tell us now that their shells are biological.

* As others have said. They managed to re fix those Spitfires in less than ten minutes? Hell it would take them longer than that just to take off and reach orbit. The gravity bubbles were all well and good. But propellers and internal combustion engines also need an atmosphere to work.
I'm also going to let my WW2 buff side show. Those weren't stuka's the dalek was shooting down. Those were also the wrong model of Spitfire. During the BoB, Spitfires were armed with eight machine guns. It wasn't til after the battle that they were armed with those long-barreled cannons. (If only they'd thrown in a line about them being 'experimental', I probably would have bought it.)

* So what was the big deal about London being lit up? The city was bombed not stop for most of a year without being destroyed. Sure there would have been a lot of damage from the German raid, but nothing the English couldn't handle.

* Disarming the scientist didn't make a lot of sense either, as others have said. Why would an android have memories? And why would reviving them stop him from exploding?
If they'd rewritten it slightly so that the scientist started out wanting to explode, and the Doctor broke his conditioning by reminding him of his humanity, it would have made much more sense. And would have made a nice callback to Resurrection of the Daleks.

* Amy: "Have you ever fancied somebody..." NOOOOOO!!! Not again! :scream:

Ah well. On the plus side, Matt turned in a great performance. You really felt his frustration. Although I was almost starting maybe the Daleks really did mean well (wouldn't that have been a twist?) Loved the scene of him banging away on it with that big honking wrench.
And the running joke about Winston trying to get the Tardis key was rather fun. Hinted at what was obviously a long running friendly rivalry.

Ah well. I guess they can't all be winners. Though I do worry that its liable to turn my best friend off the show. She didn't like last weeks, and has already said she didn't want anymore companion/doctor romances. I may not have anyone to talk DW with face to face after this week. :(

Anyway, I'm off to watch the Confidential now. Maybe it'll help explain things and put them into better context. After which its off to GB. God help me.

A good episode but not a great episode.

Something about it didn't work. And I can't figure out why the Doctor would have left the bomb robot behind at all.

That was just stupid.

everything about the bomb robot was stupid, but I figured with the Daleks in a new time, he was pretty safe.

I found it odd that Miss Gillan's skirt passed without comment.
I was wondering where her clothes came from, did they go back to Leadworth to pick up some clothes? if so there is nothing to suggest that is the case.

He said in the first episode that there were plenty of clothes in the wardrobe (and possibly a swimming pool;)).
begs the question why the Doctor has such a wide range of womens clothing.

Oh yeah, and seriously next year they should just call the episode

Contractual Obligation of the Daleks!

lmfao!!! :guffaw::guffaw: :techman:

This was pretty good. The only real dislike I had was defusing the bomb, and the hint of companion love. Both felt like Gatiss thought he was still writing for RTD. Agreed about Churchill being "off". I'm American, and even I could detect the askew personalty. Just felt like someone acting a part with very little conviction.

Smith and Gillan rocked hardcore, as ever. They have a real rhythm, and I love this slightly awkward sense that there's some negative tension between them. Ever since last week, there's still moments where it feels like the Doctor doesn't trust Amy yet. Especially when he was leaving her behind. Also, what was up with the extra-long de-materialization scenes? Was it just me, or were they watching him take off to go fight the Daleks for an abnormal amount of time?

It wasn't bad, but it kind of veered into some awkward and flat moments. I don't really care about the Daleks one way or the other, so the plot was inconsequential to me. Overall, though, I enjoyed it far more than most of Russel's stories. But, as far as Gatiss' resume, The Unquiet Dead remains his masterpiece for me. Every episode he's done since has been far less worthy...

Because a few dozen women have traveled with him, and most haven't had time to pack before they left. You've seen Doctor Who before, right? :wtf: :p ;)

if that was the case, would we not see Amy (or previous companions) wear the clothing of previous companions?

My partner just made the observation that the new Daleks look more like Dell Computers. Scarily, I think he's onto something.

Plus I suspect being able to replicate a few clothes would be the least of the TARDIS's talents.

Except they didn't seem to be playing it for the joke, the Doctor seem genuinely confused or concerned.

Besides the food replicator? Nope. But, honestly, what is so hard to fathom that Amy, previously in her whale-puked night gown, simply had a shower, and rummaged through the wardrobe-floor and compiled some clothes that fit. Could have been Jo's skirt, Sarah-Jane's shirt, and Rose's scarf. Who knows? :techman:

Out of curiousity, wasn't the Dalek Inventor a Roboman, even though they called him an Android?

Well, Robomen were just normal humans with mind-control helmets clamped on their heads. The scientist would probably be closer to one of the 'duplicates' from Peter Davisons's 'Resurrection of the Daleks'. i.e. dalek controlled copies implanted with the memories of the originals. (who could also eventually overcome their conditioning if I recall)

I think I can fathom Amy having a shower ;)

moving on, I agree its possible, but if that was the case, would we not see threads on Doctor Who forums saying "Amy was wearing so & sos skirt" this week?

or do they only wear former companions clothes that were never seen on screen?

more to the point, I know Rose & Donna bought clothes with them, but how many Classic series companions did the same thing, ok Susan might have taken a full wardrobe, but was that true of all the previous companions?

[nitpick] only one of those photos is of the actor in the role of the Doctor[/nitpick]

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I still haven't reached those episodes in the old series yet.
