They sure do. They're so essentially examples of consumer product design rather than industrial production - basically, the next-next-next generation of utilitarian machinery made convenient and attractive - as to be parodic. Brilliant.

Wonder if they bitched this much the last dozen or so times they redesigned them?

I think you misunderstood, probably due to me not being clear enough though...

I meant that you can look at the Dalek I posted and know that it was a 'modern' Dalek because it is a modern Dalek. The new design can't really look any more modern relatively speaking but perhaps more contemporary with it's characteristics of the present by borrowing from the past (see the TARDIS, Smith's outfit ect).

I know that's kinda arguing semantics, but it's what I meant when I said it didn't look any more modern.

They look more modern and not like something cobbled together forty-odd years ago, yeah.

When Amblin was involved with a possible revival they planned to change the daleks - and the Doctor himself - a great deal more than this.

Actually, the physical shape of the Daleks is what the BBC does own the rights to, since it was created by Ray Cusick when he was an employee.

Well, now we've seen them in action.

The new Daleks' colours are fine. They actually looked good when viewed from the front at a low angle (a shot which really reminds me of the tunnel chase shots in Destiny), but when seen side on or from behind - urg. Utter shit. They have fucking *bustles* for fucks sake - that makes them look like the granny from Sylvester & Tweety! They'll be back, shouting "I tawt I taw a Doctor."

they really should of, have them idenify themselves when they came out of the progentitor, then again next door was making of DIY noise at that time, so maybe they did and I missed it.

Having finally seen them in action, I don't mind the colors, its the shape. That black midsection is way too big, and I hate the way they bulge out in back. Makes the originals seem slim and elegant by comparison.
